The people kinda do in the books, but the issue is that the two remaining baratheons go to war with each other instead of cooperating

The people love Renly
FUcking hate Stannis, because they're mud farmers and they see him as cold (he is) and uncaring (he is not :( )

The lords however want neither the boytoy nor the rightful king on the throne

Renly is basically just a carbon copy of Robert in his youth.
if Robert had just supported Rhaegar and helped him get rid of Aerys to reform the targaryen line instead of spering out over a woman who didnt even love him, none of this wouldve happened.

If Renly was already willing to kill his brother to take the throne, why didn't he just side with Stannis and like 4 months after Stannis became king just had him assassinated. There's a single digit amount of people in the Seven Kingdoms that would have fought for Stannis' daughter's claim for the throne over Renly becoming king.

It would have subverted my expectations for them to film this in explicit detail. Emilia completely nude and shitting diarrhea. Cut to an extreme closeup of her sphincter in explicit detail as it loosens and expels copious amounts of brown water accompanied by glorious surround sound audio. And it goes on for ten minutes. She'd have deserved an oscar.

I know half the kingsguard was bought by Cersei, but is it really believable that they would ignore Robertโ€™s last command? Surely Barristan if he wasnโ€™t a bitch, and Arys Oakheart if Barristan stood up, would be opposed? So itโ€™s Barristan and possibly Arys against Taryn Mant Boros Bluont and Preston Greenfield? Theyโ€™d never take those odds

The renly/robert shit went deeper than lyanna. Not only did him running off with lyanna disrespect robert, as well as that stunt with the flower crown at the tournament shaming and mocking both rhaegars wife and robert, but roberts parents died going to lyse to find a wife for rhaegar. Rhaegar is part of the reason robert is an orphan, then rhaegar gets married to some dornish chick, then he steals roberts fiancee to have as his sidepiece. His anger makes perfect sense. Then you factor in his fiancees brother is his best friend and his best friends family gets butchered by rhaegars dad for that stunt, and everything aligned for robert to want to smash that silver haired fucks chest in.

I like this, or at least that everyone (especially Tywin) recognizes that Cersei's plan is awful and it's another instance of her being the pigeon on the chessboard.
Because really, Cersei's whole track record is:
>Hatch retarded plan full of pitfalls and blindspots
>Congratulate yourself for being so heckin' brilliant
>Make sure your yes men agree with the plan (they do)
>When your brothers or other politicians in your circle inevitably warn you your plan is retarded, ignore them and call them cowards
>Launch plan
>Plan works, out of a total stroke of fortune

the thing is that Cersei in the first couple of seasons at least isn't actually planning anything.

LF kills Jon Arryn
Joffrey sends the assassins to kill Bran
the boar thing is obviously a fluke
LF betrays Ned
Cersei tries to prevent Ned from getting executed but Joffrey ruins it
Joffrey also sends the Goldcloaks to kill Bobby's bastids
afterward she's just kinda there, drinking and watching as Tyrion sells Myrcella off to Dorne
it's not until later that she actually starts doing something

Hopefully that means they actually do something with the characters then. Because, and let's be honest, the Dance largely sucks in terms of writing.
Aegon II doesn't really get a chance to do much, or get much character development at all.
Rhaenyra is, ostensibly, meant to be in the right, but first she comes off as uncaring and a bit of a lying bitch, and then suffers tragedies that seem meant to make us sympathize with her but she just grows nastier as a person. So I guess the more "fanatical" thing will be in keeping with the books.

it will make the story more interesting considering Aegon was the best written character of season 2 which was random and unexpected, but most people are really not happy about it and are saying they wonโ€™t fall for green propaganda with humanising Aegon. they already started the fanatical plot for Rhaenyra looking back when she basically sacrificed all those dragonseeds because she is the chosen one and itโ€™s for the greater good.

stannis just did whatever task was asked for him, whether it was governing dragonstone or commanding the realm's fleet. if he was slighted or felt wronged, he just kept it all inside him for the sake of stability and order
meanwhile renly was doing all sorts of politicking and increasing his influence in the shadows just like the rest of the leeches

being stepped over in the succession was the one (1) thing he couldn't tolerate under any circumstance; plus it set forward a horrible precedent of ottoman-style succession by extermination of siblings that would cause incomprehensible instability in the long run
DnD hated him because he was the closest thing to a "normal" white guy claimant to the throne, everyone else was queer, inbred or a femoid

I wish he'd done a little more homework about the medieval setting. Like his knowledge of castles. I like some of the creativity, for fantasy's sake, but he doesn't seem to fully understand how they were used.
Like Edmure's situation. Being told to hold a castle historically means the territory *around* it too, since castles are used to stage attacks from (and more). It's like GRRM thought that you hold a castle by just holing up inside.

>It's done, Alicent thought, they're breaking. The Blacks were running, throwing down their weapons, rivermen and Vale dwellers and northerners in fur and boiled leather, they were running. Rhaenyra was gone, someone was waving Daemon's head on a pole, Benjicot Blackwood's lines had broken. Only the two Alans on their mounts were holding, buzzing islands in a red steel sea. The fires were leaping from tent to tent and some of the tall pines were going up as well. And through the smoke another wedge of armored riders came, on barded horses. Floating above them were the largest banners yet, royal standards as big as sheets; a smoke grey one with long pointed tongues that showed a white tower, and another like a sheet as black as night, with a golden three-headed dragon prancing and rippling in the wind.

>Ser Otto, Alicent thought for one mad moment, remembering her poor father, but when the trumpets blew again and the knights charged, the name they cried was "Aegon! Aegon! AEGON!"

Don't get it wrong. D&D were here to adapt the Red Wedding. That's it. Dorne didn't matter beyond hanging out with actors they like, and they only wanted to adapt Dorne so much as to hang out with Indira Varma

well yeah, when they started the HBO series Dorne wasn't really even a thing in the story besides vague world building. There's little to nothing to it which is why it was a disaster. They get into the Dorne arc and have no idea what to do with it since it's so unfinished. Why GRRM wasn't contractually bound to keep putting out the books or at least continually give them story outlines for where he's going with certain arcs is beyond me

Winterfell political intrigue coupled with Theon's horror was great. I enjoyed Jon and Stannis banter, and the walk of atonement chapter was kino.

It never set particularly well with me to be honest. Cersei's plan hinged entirely too much on the boar getting a killing blow on Robert. I like the idea of a mundane stupid death, but in this case being a murder method by someone in a hurry, it stretches believability. Cersei and her kids were greatly at risk. Poison was the best option even if it is quite boring. One that causes liver failure to allude to his drinking killing him. Maybe she'd slowly administered over time but upped the dose there towards the end in an act of desperation. It'd be incredibly easy for her, and at most some servants would be slain in response.

She has access to his food and drink, hell, Lancel HAD his drink. The risk associated with being discovered poisoning him was far lower than the odds of him dying hunting when drinking was his life. He was a king, he had lots of enemies. There would be no way to pin it on Cersei. And it wouldn't matter after Joffrey was king -- which is exactly how things panned out after Roberts death. So it was a stupid move.

Cersei isnโ€™t a great schemer.

In Sansa II of AGoT, we see the queen set up Robert for an assassination attempt in the melee, and in the next chapter we get confirmation from Varys that her reverse-psychology was a deliberate attempt to maneuver him into a place where a โ€œtragic accident could take place.โ€ This is very useful information, because it adds to our understanding of how the Lannister Conspiracy operates, and what its signature is โ€“ namely, the use of arranged โ€œaccidentsโ€ as a cover for murder, a tendency to passivity, and an overall sloppiness (Cersei couldnโ€™t really count on her assassination actually killing Robert, given his skill in battle and the general chaos of the melee, and we see this again with Cersei arranging for Lancel to slip Robert fortified wine on his boar hunt, which doesnโ€™t actually guarantee a kill).

Yeah I definitely would have liked an unknown liver failure poison. Even have Robert not doing the best at the beginning of the story, as he's been slowly being poisoned over time if. Have Ned comment on him needing to take it easy on the drinking and eating. Then when he takes a turn south suddenly, it's just an absolute inconvenience. Leaving the reader to wonder. That's something Cersei would take advantage of, a man with a drinking problem. To hide her deeds.

Then much later in the story/future books, when we find out about a rare poison that breaks down the liver, we have our strong evidence. It'll also reinforce the erroneous assumption that Cersei poisoned Jon Arryn.

Boar hunting is an excellent opportunity to kill a king like Robert. Its the most dangerous kind of hunting, even mortally wounded boas will take hunters to their graves. Everyone knows this about boars so fewer people call it into suspicion. Robert is also very easily seen as the type of guy who would die with his boots on. This is a ready made ironic but manly death tailor made for popular consumption and noble credulity.

Yes to be honest, Im surprised Lancel allowed him to make it to the maesters in time. This must have been because the hunting party was closer than Lancel anticipated. Lancel being a pampered noble would explain why hes not aware of the proximity of the King's real handlers and servants.
My thoughts are that Cersei had standing orders to increase the risk of all the times Robert did dangerous hobbies. She just wanted him gone and was stupid enough to think "well i just need to get lucky once". She should have had Lancel actually finish him off but he didnt have the balls to do so even if ordered.

>I know! I'll instruct my cousin to secretly give him extra strong wine the next time he goes on a hunt.
>He will not notice the wine is strengthened, and get drunker than usual.
>In his heightened drunken state, when he eventually finds a boar, he will order his many guards to stand back and do nothing while he goes to fight a boar alone, which they will all unquestioningly obey despite seeing how drunk he is.
>And then when he confronts the boar it will charge him, and in his heightened drunken state he will fail to kill the boar correctly, allowing it to gore him to death while all his guards do nothing!
>It's the PERFECT assassination plan!

Cersei Lannister could give Aizen a run for his money.

She had so many enemies that would give their left nut/tit to see he twisting in the wind. Hell, you could probably get Joffery to do it lmao
Lots of nobles who got to feign ignorance at the hunting accident because it was convenient for them would be forced to action in a situation where even maesters are saying the king is dead by poison. Servants would be questioned sharply, people would squeal under the slightest pressure.

I disagree. Renly was a hollow man. He looked the part, he schemed here and there, but that's about it. He is an incompetent commander as seen in his strategy, he is pissing off his top men due to nepotistic choices, and most of his "loyal" follower drop his memory the moment he is gone. He was lucky that he got entangled with the Tyrells. That's about as far as his talents go.

Pycelle was the Lannisters' man and he would be the one to investigate the cause of death. It would be trivial to get away with it. In fact, Jon Arryn had already died from Lysa poisoning him, which Pycelle knew and did nothing about, so this would just be a repeat.

So yeah, she could easily have killed Robert and gotten away with it with Pycelle's help.
