BASED
>It’s actually great. The scene unfolds with Clark and Jonathan in a raw, emotionally charged argument—Clark declaring he doesn’t have to listen because “he’s not his real dad.” But the moment isn't truly about whether Superman can save his father; it’s about Clark embracing his humanity in the eyes of the man who raised him. That’s all Jonathan ever wanted. When people hail Clark as a miracle for saving the bus, Jonathan’s visiblablly rolls his eyes. He sees Clark not as a god, but as his son—his human son. And a human son cannot save his human father. Clark’s choice to honor Jonathan’s wishes isn’t weakness—it’s humility. It’s strength through grief, love through restraint. In the end, he honors Johnathan as his real dad, by listening to him. That’s the point. Why is that so hard for people to understand?

Uhh based?

What would even happen?
He doesn't need to fly off or lift cars or anything else overt.
Just run over there (at a somewhat reasonable speed), grab dad, and run back with him.

People would just think he got lucky.

What makes this scene so great is the fact the only pov that matters is Pa Kent. No one else. Clark later understands that. Clark was the protector of the world and it required a much bigger introduction. Snyder understood the mechanics that make a hero. It’s not about nonsensical quips and slapstick comedy of modern MCU movies and Deadpoo and Wokverine.

Ah yes, being a hero is letting an innocent die because that person didn't want you to save him.

Lots of vitriol here but the that particular part of the movie was exceptional. When Jonathan Kent left safety to save his dog it was 100% an act of bravery. He knew he may lose his life. Did he think, no biggie my super powered son got this…no he was not thinking that. To think that takes away from Jonathan Kent’s heroism. I can write volumes about this scene. Well done to Costner. He really sold the scene. And of course kudos to Zack Snyder. Have fun at the movies this weekend folks!

>can't even comprehend what is being discussed.
Anon, "superheroes" is a genre. Star wars is space opera. The "hero" from hero's journey is not the same "hero" from the "superheroes" genre. And either way, nothing about the hero's journey has anything to do with the discussion: letting an innocent die because that person didn't want you to save him is not what being a hero is about.

It all boils down to respecting and obeying his father. His adoptive father. Allow me to oversimplify, obey father = hero, and disobey father = villain. Oversimplification for sure but it will steer some people above to the right track. Richard Donnor understood as much in the famous, it is forbidden scene. It is forbidden. It is forbidden. It is forbidden for you to interfere with human history. It is forbidden. To disobey his father was to interfere in human history. Alas that’s exactly what Superman did in the 1978 movie. Snyder gave us his take and it was brilliant. If Donner and Snyder understand, shouldn’t you all???

I would say it's also because the dad argued that maybe you should have let a bus full of kids die, because he cared more about his son than a bunch of other people's kids, didn't want him exposed and lose him to people who would apprehend him and experiment on him. So he's consistent in that belief. He loves his son so much, that when the same question is put to his life, he also believes it's worth sacrificing to keep Clark's secret.
I liked Man of Steel, more than most. The kryptonian aesthetics looked very much like an entirely different alien culture and technology on display. Michael Shannon is always an amazing villain and his reasoning is just as understandable as Thanos' was, a great motivation, well-played. In the same way Jonathan cares more about his son and he'd sacrifice other lives that he doesn't care as much for to protect him, Zod cares more about krypton and it's people, and he'd just as easily sacrifice earthlings for his own.
The movie has foreshadowing and parallels and is better than people who just think "oh capeshit" give it credit for.

are you retarded? have you never been in a tornado before? no, he couldn't just walk over there, it would take an inhuman level to just walk over and get his dad out of the car, especially as the winds picked up enough to fling the car away a moment later

>anon desperately tries to drag the discussion away from the original point to save face.
Star wars is NOT a superhero movie. Superheroes and the hero's journey are not related. A story can be both a superhero story and a hero's journey, but they're not intrinsically connected, in the same way a sci-fi or space opera can be a hero's journey or not.
>A hero's strength relies in his heart and family
A superhero saves the innocent. Superman left an innocent to die because that innocent asked to. That is not the meaning of a hero.

>Clark, instead of using your amazing powers to help people, you should become a lost soul wandering the edges of society. I will needlessly sacrifice myself as my body is torn apart by this giant tornado while you watch, knowing you could have saved me but chose not to. I'm also leaving behind a wife who will dearly miss me every day and struggle to keep the farm going. It's also critically important that the only time you reveal your power is to destroy a trucker's semi because he was rude to a waitress in some shit diner in the middle of nowhere. This is all for the greater good or something.
