I am a huge fan of "A Man for All Seasons". Thomas More's dialogues are sublime. Take the scene where More is admonished by his prospective son-in-law for using the word "heretic".
>You mustn't use such a bad word!
>Bad word? It is a bad thing!
How much mischief in politics is caused by those who think they can fix the thing by fixing the word? I am grateful for St Thomas More's wit and courage.

>>212593054 (OP)A fine movie. Nominated for 8 oscars, winning 6
I would put The Agony and the Ecstasy and Shoes of the Fisherman in the same general level
>>212593054 (OP)This looks good. I'll check it out. Thanks for the recommendation. I would recommend the film Barry Lyndon. I think it has a lot of wisdom about ambition, social status, and fate.
>>212594940I liked Kurosawa's "Dreams". Scorsese makes a cameo as Van Gough.

A short and over the surface take would be: "Be careful with what you wish for"
On a more detailed level, it's about how dogmatism (that enables the witch-hunts) can destroy one individual or a whole society. One of the inquisitors calls for the hiring of a supposed lawman, a schmuck that is nothing more than an escalator that uses the dogma of The Malleus Maleficarum to detain, torture, trial and ultimately execute those who are supposedly in league with the Devil... not to mention that the real purpose is for this lawman to filthily enrich himself with the despoiled properties of the witches. Ironically, even the other inquisitors get eventually hunt down and trialed as witches.
There's more to this, not only in the narrative level but also in the technical/visual one, it's a really great film.
>>212593054 (OP)Thomas moore was a wishy washy dork. This is like a movie in 2050 giving AOC a 200 minute speech on Jan 6
>>212597552That isn't a fair assessment.
