China coming in with a clutch already looks to be off the table (surprising when MoS did quiet well over there back in 2013) and other asian markets aren't doing well either

Australia and the UK were the other big markets for MoS back in the day so if those don't do well it's up to Burgers to make the movie a success

$1 Billion is now clearly off the table entirely and even outdoing MoS adjusted for inflation looks to be near unobtainable now

This is exactly it. No matter how much people want to blame Snyder for "ruining" Superman the simple fact is that he just isn't a very popular character in this day and age. Well known, absolutely but name recognition alone isn't enough to make a character popular or profitable. It doesn't matter if he's portrayed as gritty and realistic or hopeful and goofy; Superman doesn't translate well to well to film. If DC was smart they would give up on the pipe dream of trying to have a cinematic universe to Marvel's and focus on animation, which is one the mediums that actually work for Superman.
