If the sopranos turned into some courtroom Mobster vs. Mommy drama it could have really fucking sucked. They spent the whole first season with AJ's "muh DNA report" plotline in case anyone hadnt seen Jurassic Park or the OJ trial. By season 5 they were shooting cops in home invasions with no consequences.

Every once in a while they'd have a Beer Night and whoever won would get to force production into doing something extremely ridiculous like CGI Livia or forcing Jim Gandolfini to say "Revenge is like serving cold cuts." it was about the mother all along, they kept that thread till like the last episode even where tony fully admits that it was his family fucking him up and raising him to be a mobster, especially his mother demanding a lot of dirty shit while she sits back and reaps the rewards. one of the last therapy sessions tony has is admitting it, i would have to rewatch the series, but i think its either the last or second to last episode. i'm pretty sure livia wouldve stayed alive throughout the whole show, or at least almost as long like livia does in i, claudius. and then dying of old age, trying to justify her evil behavior in the manner that its the only way to gain power as a women in the mob society, by using her family as pawns like the matriarch she was.
