You know what's really insane about this scene is that it's a Whedon addition. Meaning it wasn't even supposed to be in the movie. Despite knowing they would have to CGI over Cavill's face in every new scene he wrote multiple new scenes including an opening that was nothing *but* a potato-quality portrait close-up of Cavill's face. The face he knew they'd have to CGI over. And then when he saw it looked like this he kept it in the movie anyway despite it not being plot essential.

No one will ever be able to convince me he gave the slightest fuck about this movie. If anything, at some points it feels like deliberate sabotage. And to this day people blame Snyder whenhe had no control over any of this and the wheels only came off after they replaced him. What in the FUCK were they thinking?

Executives panicked because, despite 2 successful outings with Man of Steel and Batman v Superman, they thought Justice League was going to bomb, also probably prompted due to the fact he refused to cut it down any shorter than it was, which was like 2 and a half hours. The studio wanted a 2 hour max long MARVEL slop-copy, and Snyder refused.

BvS underperformed. They expected a monstrous hit considering Batman's popularity combined with cinematic universe bait.

No, because Snyder's two failures demolished DC in the eyes of the audiences.
