I saw the Cornetto trilogy this week. I've seen the other 2 before but The World's End was a first timer.
Man, it was fucking disappointing. I was really enjoying the movie alot off it's initial premise of just barhopping to the world's end. It even felt like it had enough subplots to carry it to a 1hr 30min movie with
>gary alcohol use disorder
>pete's past bullying
>gary lying to them about his mom
>steve liking the same girl gary liked
>gary's and andy's relationship
>gary being a fucking manchild while everyone else were successful
The robot twist fucking ruined it for me. I did not enjoy the movie at all after the toilet scene

Yeah, the movie seemed like a really good drama about these people's personal problems until the robot twist which took away all emotional investment I had in the story
The sci-fi elements were sheer cowardice to escape actually dealing with what they were setting up
Anonymous No.212618673
I think the point of the movie is the manchild fantasy nonsense interrupting the serious plot because Simon Pegg's entire life still revolves around fantasy childishness and doing things he would have found as cool as a teen, but yeah it did just come across as boring cliche, cgi slop once the alien plot began.

Unexpected kino. Was great seeing NPC zoomer robots get their faces smashed in.

Why would they name it after such a disappointing ice cream?

As a man child I really enjoyed it. Soundtrack was spot on as well for the 90s

It honestly should've been played straight. That alone would've been enough of a twist compared to the more outlandish previous two.

No, but pretending to be upset about it might make the qualifiers.

It started off really well. I thought the divisive reviews were due to the lack of comedic moments and the the twist happened...

I remember seeing it opening weekend and being pretty disappointed, I didn't mind the whole alien invasion subplot, but it felt like an afterthought unlike Shaun where the zombie outbreak is the point, and the characters have their little arc around due to it.

Hot Fuzz I still think is the best of the three, and still the best thing Edgar Wright has ever directed, I don't know if he'll ever top it at this point.

Anonymous No.212619690 >>212624371
It also is hurt by the fact that he didn't really dissect any part of the sci fi genre... like in Shaun it's a horror but specifically zombies etc... Hot Fuzz is an action but specifically buddy cops.... Worlds End is like a dark comedic drama set up but it's also about clones! err robots! errr it's an alien ivasion too! errrr it's like hitchiker's guide to the galaxy get it???!
He broke formula in the wrong way
Anonymous No.212619747
I thought the big 'twist' of the movie was that Peter was going to kill his bully or something. The robot thing came out of left field. It had zero setup aside from the fact that Gary is s manchild that is always right.

Granted it's been like 10 years since I've seen this, but I don't get how everyone's saying they were caught off guard by the sci-fi twist. Did you never see the trailer or any promotional material and just go in completely blind with no info?

It is as are these 3 subpar movies but this is usually the case with British movies and shows. They always exaggerate the significance of what little they make since they barely produce anything of worth media wise. Shaun of the Dead was the most meh comedy I ever seen in my like but everyone was hyping it up as the second coming of christ

They're not amazing in the grand scheme of things, but I think you're forgetting how insanely mid most comedies were in the early 2000s.

>they barely produce anything of worth media wise.
Fuck no, late-90s to early-10s had some of the most influential shows ever. Channel 4's original shows during that time just can't be beat.
>Everything Chris Morris related
>Armando Iannucci getting his start
>Darkplace being allowed to exist at all
>Pre-S3 Black Mirror
>Misfits kicking-off the whole edgy superhero thing
>Utopia 100% influenced a lot of mid-late 10s shows
>All the indie experimental programming that not even golden-era adult swim can compare to
And that's just the stuff I can remember from Channel 4 alone. Of course C4 sucks nowadays but the output in that period of time is undeniable.
Keep in mind that I'm not a brit and that I watched most of these way after the fact.

I feel that the film could have still worked if not for the shit ending. It should've been
