Honestly, Ayer's movie was better. All of Gunn's scenes are just rinse and repeated of every single movie he's made. He's a master manipulator of audiences that know just how to feign a reaction from you. Is that a cute animal with feelings? Check. Is that a deluded action scene set with a familiar pump up song? Check. Is that banter between two unlikely people that need ti team up? Check.

All this leads people to think they are watching a good movie since their emotions are now high off dopamine. It masks how poor his writing really is. I mean this movie literally had Amanda Waller and her team fall asleep during the climax. If that was Snyder, people would dogpile and attack that. Kek.

This shit even ends with a punk song like Superman. Guess villains are Punk Rock now?

I actually think this is Gunn’s best movie because he could go full edgelord but either Peacmaker or GoTG3 was when I was like “okay I’ve had enough of this formula”. Every single movie he has to introduce a comic relief animal and daddy issues. If he’s unable to move on from that then yes I think he’s a hack.

Both wrong. None of the action scenes are set to pop songs. You're talking about the beginning when theyre talking about the team which I agree with. Once the movie has them together it's much better than people give it credit for. Even the scene with them with the bar is better than ANYTHING in this gargabe

Margot robbie is funny as Harley and she should do more spinoff. Sparrow was unexpected but a worthy villian. The self talk she was doing in the pit and her genuine care for boomer was coʻl.

Having watched Superman, I agree. For all the talk about how scripts need to be perfect in James Gunn's DC, it's not particularly well written imo, especially the dialogue. But it ticks the boxes for normies. Like you said, master manipulator of audiences.

I just find it funny that Warner changed the first suicide squad to make it more in line with the guardians of the galaxy movie that was popular at the time and then just said fuck it as they flat out nabbed him in general. I like Gunn but his not a transformative director, his like wheadon but with a more cinematic eye rather than a telepresence eye

It does feel like Gunn makes the same film every time.
