As someone with enough fans that I get recognised very rarely out in public to the point where I know most of the ones who live near me personally, I absolutely love it and I actively look out for them whenever I'm out in public hoping that someone will come up and talk to me, I genuinely see them as my friends. I will never understand pricks who think they're too good to talk to their fans. I can imagine becoming cynical if most of your "fans" were just leeching off of you and didn't actually like you, and I have met people like that and it annoyed me, but I don't count them as fans.

i couldn't fathom what it'd be like for a celeb, but actually reveling in healthy rapport with clients and fans based on your own positive reputation is a very gratifying bonus for anyone engaged in any sort of creative field. some fat doppelganger of mine showing up would honestly would be pretty flattering as long as we don't spill spaghetti all over each other

my coworker is pretty famous, they go the emmy's a lot, was on tv, has a substantial following. If my boss didn't out him, I'd never have known he was famous, but in his scene he's prolific. Really cool guy, kinda hates fame and wants a simpler life. So having fans must feel weird if fame wasn't something you strived for. If you're a narcissist it's probably awesome.
