Why does Superman bother working a day job anyway? Wouldn’t he be more effective as Superman if he was helping people 24/7? Every second he’s at work people are dying and suffering around the world. This doesn’t bother him?

Superman would not be able to be superman without his connection to his human identity. If he were detached, he would not function the same. There are a million ways Superman can make money. He can see the entire metallic content of the earths crust, all he has to do he round up some rare metal and poof. He can crush coal into diamonds if he wants. He can fly to ANOTHER planet and bring back metal from that. We have to work to survive but he could easily use his powers to fraud/steal his way to wealth and no one would ever know. Yes but that doesn’t mean that Batman doesn’t profit from having a secret identity. It potentially makes him a better crime fighter because he can’t attend Bilderberg meetings in his cowl. This analogy doesn’t work when talking about Superman because the Clark Kent persona does not seem to have any tangible benefit for Superman-as-crime fighter. There’s always something-something about his “humanity” but I just don’t see the sense in that. The president of the United States might volunteer at a soup kitchen one day (or read to a kindergarten class or whatever else) once in a while, and that can reassert their connection to The People. But he doesn’t do it every day, it’s a waste of resources and his job is far too important to leave idle half the time

Superman either wants to intentionally keep himself humble or genuinely enjoys his civilian life. Both of which are inherently flawed in terms of being the strongest being on the planet and also it's protector. I guess that would be the point to the whole shining beacon of hope type bullshit they talk about, Superman is supposed to be the best parts of humanity while still being incredibly flawed.
