>>212646428There are two broad methods of persuasion on the internet.
Beacon-based communication is the first. This can be seen in neonazis, conspiracy theorists, religious believers, and New Atheists. You tell people the truth, the whole truth. You debate them based on the evidence of your viewpoints. What you see is what you get. The guy might be arguing for flat earth or Tartaria, but it's the same. The belief underpinning it is the faith that everyone, regardless of who they are, can come to know the truth, too.
What leftists use is an onion model. The more of your ideology you reveal, the more surface area you need to defend. Most of what leftists believe is poorly understood and poorly founded. It's held chiefly for emotional reasons. Hence, their arguments revolve around fallacy, disingenuity, and revealing as little of their true beliefs as possible.
Hitler's description is apt, it's like wrestling with an eel. There is nothing being offered. It's almost entirely rhetorical games. The true beliefs of an onion-modeler are only shared within the inner circles: the discords, subreddits, and imageboards where the ideology is promulgated. The media outlets which act as pulpits with no trade of ideas. It's the communication style used by cults, Scientology, and freemasons. Essentially, it is gnosticism. They're not going to say women can be born with a penis, men are privileged, and America is based on systemic racism, even though they believe it, because they cannot prove these positions and by merely stating them lose credibility. Hence, they'll redirect the conversation to Trump or Israel and how you're failing to live up to your own book of rules or asking what woke is for the hundred thousandth time.
