This guy has apparently built a cable simulator, if I had more care I would try to build one with what this guy has left. I feel like Pluto tv is fine as a cable simulator though, simple enough to go through but convenient enough to justify the shitty parts

Why not just get an ATSC CRT and plug an antenna into it. Analog feel and no internet needed.

I’m not sure the guy just seems slightly autistic and yearning for something comfy I suppose. I was surprised by how many channels I got through the random digital antenna I got from my uncle. It was actually good enough that I’m considering getting 150 dollar one that I can put on my roof with over 100 miles of range

Do they still get a signal, don't you need the cable company to hook it up.

I dunno the isrealie dude he showed at the end made his with an actual old cable box. This whole thing is kind of cool but it just seems like such a long way to go to recreate something you can just watch on youtube. Every now and again I’ll put on an old adult swim or cable cartoon block as background noise, I don’t think I’d do something like this. At least this broad, I wouldn’t mind the start trek channels on Pluto being a bit more varied, it makes sense that TOS and TNG share a channel but having ds9 and voyager as just constantly streaming channels just going through the shows is just meh. If it was me I’d have three channels still, but one would be primarily TOS TNG with some ENT as the three shows set on the enterprise. One that tells the story of the dominon war, so you’d have episodes of TNG like the wounded and chain of command mixed with a few VOY episodes that dealt with the maquis alongside the bulk of DS9, then I’d just have a channel cycling through the rest of VOY and ENT with the few random one off DS9 episodes

yes. but buying an old one and modifying it seems easier than building the entire box from scratch

exactly

Uh huh.

It does seem like a bunch of wasted effort talking around hosting a few streams that are filled with 480p sitcoms with commercials that were downloaded off of YouTube. Though I will say after watching through old 80s tapes of shit my dad’s friend just recorded off of tv, it is certainly comfy. It’s weird to think that in 1987 SNL was the literal last thing to air on Saturday nights on my local nbc station
