>I want to watch this for Mater Snoodspiriorum....It's top 3 queenkino in my opinion so you should definitely check it out. Shocky's even more fun if you can convince yourself it's the "real" sequel to Suspiria and Phantom's the prequel.

>>212666304I haven't gotten around to that yet after watching his disaster of a Suspiria remake. Was it decent overall?
>>212666529His Suspiria was the first movie I saw of his and I decided Iโd hate him for life because of it. But even though I went into Bones and All with a, โguilty until proven innocentโ mentality, it still won me over. Itโs a straightforward narrative movie, more of an occasionally grotesque drama than a horror movie. Itโs like Claire Denisโs Trouble Every Day but 65% as good. One scene made me feel nauseous and faint which is ultra rare and has happened like 5 times.
Still, Luca remains on the suspicion list! Any time I see his name I prepare for the worst.
>>212666997Chalamet is decent imo so I'll end up seeing it soon enough. He was great in A Complete Unknown and even pretty good in Call Me by Your Name.

>>212665786L'estate piu calda was built for me ฬต an Italian late-20's woman watching one movie a month on my laptop in bed, bored because of all my friends are too busy to hang out.
It was good that I rolled that one, because today is a REALLY hot day. I'm DOYING OVA HERE. It was really lightweight cinema with no artistic merit, but it should only be approached as nothing more if you want to get anything out of it. Not /film/. Enjoyable though.
Bonus points because the main woman resembled Tatum Christine at times.

>>212669731NTA but I have over 500 horror movies logged on the 'boxd and if I had to draft a top 10 it would be the usual suspects. I don't know why you immediately assume that anon hasn't seen those other noir films and still likes that one.

>>212670035Pffft, so you're a dilettante, why did I even expect something original. Cagney made gangster films btw, not noirs.

is Sunset Bvd. really a noir? I haven't watched it but I always thought it was a drama about the end of a hollywood era and the dawn of another
>>212674324It is indeed but the central metaphot is curiously simultaneously too blunt and too thin. It is essentially a melodrama.

>>212677020Have you seen Godard's Weekend? It references Story of the Eye.
I know you're an LvT fan, he's alluded to De Sade a few times. Dogville has some Nietzschean, Justine-ish vibes.
And of course, I'll always recommend The Devil Probably. It captures that very French vibe of aimless drifting that'd I almost call proto-Houellebecqian.

Not a bad film in there, great filmography. I should watch Iron Cross one of these days
>>212673897I fell asleep whilst watching it last night. I watched it from the beginning. I just finished it. It's a film I can't answer for. My internal monologue was killed by the film. My mind was silent. The film washed over my feet like the tide. In my opinion it's the Bestsson of the black and white era. Mouchette is my favourite model. The Bressonian technique is to extract the "automatic" from the model. Mouchette really felt like a girl who was being candid camera'd without her knowledge. I wonder if it was really the best one so far or if reading Bobby's book just gave me more of an appreciation for and insight into his spiritual quest. Wow!
Next up: Man of Steel
>>212673986I watched some of Paulie's movies. I like Starship Poopers. Total Recall was fairly basic, I thought. Reddit Satire. I love Robocop because I am a Catholic. I realised after watching it like 4 times that Robocop is actually Jesus for fat amerilards. I want to watch the rest of his American films before I watch his Eurokinos.
I couldn't make it through the Watchmen comic, so I doubt Snyder will offend me with his rendition. My favourite Alan Moore story is in Batman Annual #11. I hate The Killing Joke too so maybe I just hate when he tries to be sneedversive and provocative.
>>212675321I watched Straw Dogs recently and I was shook because Dustin in it dresses exactly like how I dress. How can I write and make my own high IQ high concept independent sci-fi short film if I can't write and I'm an idiot?
>>212687097Listen to what you're asking, man.
>>212687181Basically how can I be Shane Carruth if I admire him but don't have his talent or IQ
>>212687198Knowing Carruth, you only have to worry about the IQ part.

On the other hand, I must admit to liking Anisa Jomha very much, in fact, so much that I will steal her from Ian. I am only attracted to married women, and that's a good thing. Films about cuckolding?

>>212687712>Films about cuckolding? The entirety of italian cinema from the 1960s and 1970s.

Remember when Oliver Stone tried to show Putin Dr. Strangelove and was disappointed when he wasn't amazed by it?
>Truffaut: Would you say that Psycho is an experimental film?
>Hitchcock: Possibly. My main satisfaction is that the film had an effect on the audiences, and I consider that very important. I donโt care about the subject matter; I donโt care about the acting; but I do care about the pieces of film and the photography and the sound track and all of the technical ingredients that made the audience scream. I feel itโs tremendously satisfying for us to be able to use the cinematic art to achieve something of a mass emotion. And with Psycho we most definitely achieved this. It wasnโt a message that stirred the audiences, nor was it a great performance or their enjoyment of the novel. They were aroused by pure film.
>They were aroused by pure film.
What did the Hitch mean by this?
>>212690938Pure film = Michael Bay

Fellini's great innovation was to play a catchy Italian theme as a semi-ironic commentary on the camera zooming in on Italians acting like lustful animals.
Truly a great director!

The reason everyone treats you like shit isn't because you have refined artistic appreciation, it's because you're an obnoxious faggot desperate at all costs to be thought of as refined, artistic, and tasteful. Any concept, no matter how banal or simplistic, will seem new, fresh, avant-garde, deep, and insightful to you if presented in a slow, indirect, or intentionally obfuscated way. You will consider yourself elite among men for grasping an obvious truth through the subtext of a boring film velvet-hammering it into your subconscious to filter back up into your conscious mind where it should have already sat without needing to watch anything, or really be told anything, if you were of average intelligence.
You are obsessed with the communication of the point, not the point itself - anything would seem sublime to you, with the appropriate sombre window dressing. This would all be well and good were you able to remember that art is primarily a form of entertainment, but you are so ardently convinced of the sublime philosophy of the banal that your passions become pathetic, especially when you go on and on about how anyone who sees through the veil is just like those mean ol' kids who bullied you in middle school and just doesn't "get" the divine meaning of some soapbox thumping lunatic's snoozeflick about depression.
We're all treating you like shit here.
