All you need is an aquaman or barbie every once in a while. Same way Disney can seem to hemorrhage money, then release inside out 2 and everything is good and dandy again. Plus, the main way these super man brands make money is actually through merchandising. Super passive income with almost no overhead. Disney probably makes hundreds of millions on Spiderman underwear and t shirts alone.

the comparison breaks down because most MCU movies actually made tons of money. you mention Aquaman because it’s pretty much the only unassailable “W” that dc ever produced, yet by the standards of the MCU it would only have been a modest hit

It is flopping overseas, but let's be a little less dishonest. Its only playing in 70 theaters in China, mainly in 2 cities with a ton of American expats. We can't say one way or another if it would've flopped in China without the soft ban. But yes, it is indeed flopping in China.

I wasn't comparing it to the MCU, no stakes in MCU vs DC, or Snyder vs Gunn or whatever. Simply saying a production company can stay afloat (key word stay afloat) if they get a big win every now and again, even with a string of losses. That is all.

hard agree, though
so long as it's not a megaflop like a lot of their recent superhero flicks, reviews well, and gets people interested in the world again then it's by all means a success. people seem to forget that. also the fact that gunn likely knew it wasn't going to do gangbusters and greenlit that low budget clayface movie probably so it could offset any monetary losses.

Do you go outside, or just read shit? I just got back from the bar on my lunch break. A commercial came on for it. Girl next to me, I shit you not said "Looks too silly for me, but my son wants to see it, and I kinda wanna see it to prove my theory it's bad." Then the bartender was like "My husband and son loved it when they saw it. I stayed at home, no interest." The the rest of the bar chimed in all probably gonna go see it out of curiosity. Some said because its been the first superman movie in a while so might as well, others said they had kids who wanted to see it, others said they heard their friends enjoyed it and would check it out, or they had a friend who was dying to drag them along to this shit. The last time this happened for me was barbie, which proved to have amazing legs. This is all completely anecdotal, I haven't seen it, waiting if someone will buy me a ticket, not paying for this crap. But to say word of mouth doesn't exist is silly.

Sorry, posted wrong pic
BUT
as a re min der
Warner Bros. Discovery has around $60 billion in debt — about $35 billion is long-term debt, and the rest is short-term debt and other liabilities.

The majority of their films are box office bombs. Fantastic Beasts and the DCEU failed. Joker 2 failed. As far as I know, only Barbie, Minecraft, and Sinners have made money recently.

DC and Fantastic Beasts failed as franchises,( but reboots are imminent. )The CW was sold for zero dollars.

Zaslav’s salary in 2022 was $39.3 million. In 2021, it was $246 million

Debt by itself is a nonsense gauge. WBDiscovery is in a shit situation. Very shit. Debt and equity is a way better method to gauge a company is doing, in VERY simple terms. Once again, let's not be dishonest here, WBD is in a very bad spot. Very bad. But you are the same type of fucker who years ago would spout "Netflix is $50 billion in debt" or "Apple lost several billion producing their streaming service". You know that the mortgage on your house counts as debt right? That's the simplest way I can explain it to you fools. You are in debt to the bank, debt itself isn't a bad word.

Nice novel that completely missed the question I asked and made about 6 million assumptions about me while trying to sound smart.

There will be 2 different companies from 2026: WBD Streaming & Studios (all their TV/film stuff) and WBD Global Networks (cable and streaming). ALL the WBD debt you talked about will be in WBD Global Networks.

So you saying

>WBDiscovery is in a shit situation

is misinformed and everything you spouted after that isn't related to the question whatsofuckingever.

Genuine question since I'm not that plugged in to /tv/ culture wars: Why does everyone want the movie to fail so badly?

I haven't seen it and I don't have much interest in it, but I did like the first two Guardians movies (never saw the third), just to give context to my stance on the movie. Is it Marvel vs DC shitflinging? Is it just that people hate the movie and want it and the director to fail before he gets more movies made? Is it not related to the movie itself and more of a grudge against Gunn himself?

I guess I just don't understand the fixation with numbers these days.
Anonymous No.212675784
>>212675641
Some want it to fail because simply because they don't like Gunn either as a person or as an artist, some because they love Snyder and Gunn replaced him, some because they hate all superhero movies, some just because they want to keep having DC movies as a lolcow.

Marvel fans are the least invested in this movie flopping or not, ironically enough.

DC isn't the reason WBD is in financial trouble. Its WarnerBros itself. DC merchandising and films can keep it afloat, the low budget reality shit discovery does is highly profitable. But wb in the past decade, can't for the life of them pump out a good, profitable movie, without getting lucky. WB has traded 3 hands at this point. WB has to bank on DC and nothing else, and even that doesn't work. Its sad to see, but its the truth. WB isnt profitable outside of DC, and barely.
