I have no idea why they massacre movies like this. I watched an 80s movie yesterday and even though it took place in bunch of streets, alleys, abandoned hallways and basements, the colors just popped. You just know it would be blue filter throughout

Movie film is somewhere in the 4k-16k range depending on the size and quality of film, so yes, literally all movies can be upscaled to 4K without the need for remaster. The only issue is the quality of the film degrades leading to artifacts for very old movies.

Some of the film prints did end up having a blue hue to them at times. Seeing the thief 35mm and the terminator 35mm I’ve seen what their logic is and how the movies looked in theaters when they came out, so there need to “correct” that on home release. The problem is they dial that up way more than they should.
I’m glad the new Thief 4K that’s coming out (not from criterion) has a Bluray of the original home release as an option.
