if I had to guess, it's honestly the same situation with games and remasters/remakes
>everyone half-competent and who understand what they are doing either retired or just left the industry
>most ""restorations"" and remakes are contracted to some third world company hence all the fog (aka sรฒygas) out of nowhere and so on, they are quick cashgrabs anyway so who cares
hence why anyone who slurps this shit up from criterion and actually supports and purchases this stuff is a retard

in the theater, most of the matrix was starved of all green, so that when you left the theater, everything outside would have a green tint. similar to how if you close your eyes and turn your face to the sun, everything will have a blue tint when you open your eyes again.

often companies will outsource restoration to other labs which have their own "styles". for instance Criterion sends all its jobs to Ritrovata, which gives every film a steel-blue tone which is completely fabricated and nothing to do with the original colors.

however there are other remasters like LotR or anything James Cameron where the directors themselves make the changes. they saw all the dailies, all the rough cuts, over and over, and now they sit in front of computer software that makes it look new and different than it did 20-30 years ago. they press that color button and it makes them happy. that's why James Cameron and many other directors can no longer be trusted to review their old movies, they just can't help but behave like Lucas.

Movie film is somewhere in the 4k-16k range depending on the size and quality of film, so yes, literally all movies can be upscaled to 4K without the need for remaster. The only issue is the quality of the film degrades leading to artifacts for very old movies.

I want to kill you with a claw hammer. The laser excites the air and clears a path for the plasma which is fired at the target using the air that was hit by the laser as a media that way you don't lose power and the plasma can go really fast.
The actual effect is purple. So if someone figured out energy density or maybe a solid to plasma effect like super sublimation we are stuck with bullets.
The technology is there now the energy density and sources are not.
We can easily melt as battleship with this stuff but we don't have the power sources to do it with you are talking fusion generation or stp science

Some of the film prints did end up having a blue hue to them at times. Seeing the thief 35mm and the terminator 35mm Iโ€™ve seen what their logic is and how the movies looked in theaters when they came out, so there need to โ€œcorrectโ€ that on home release. The problem is they dial that up way more than they should.
Iโ€™m glad the new Thief 4K thatโ€™s coming out (not from criterion) has a Bluray of the original home release as an option.

there's a fan edit on Myspleen that intentionally makes them MORE colourful. few other changes. goal is to be a bit more whimsical and closer to the books, i believe.

>pretending to care about this

You only care because you look at the direct comparisons like this. If you never had this information you wouldn't have given a fuck about the colouring. I guarantee you could put on any movie you haven't watched in a while and had no idea what the colouring was supposed to be in scenes the previous time you watched it.

nope. Fellowship actually adds useful scenes that are referenced later, like Galadriel giving away the magic rope and the phial. All the scenes added in TT and RotK are useless and make the movies worse, you can't name a good extended scene

It's the same thing with 24fps. Cucklennials have been gaslit into thinking this is more "cinematic". If you release a movie with proper color grading or higher than slideshow framerate they won't like it.
