Why didn't Hollywood want to fund it? Why did critics hate it so much?

Well, Mel did a big mess. He made people think Jesus was suffering in the cross. Jesus was smiling in the cross since he knew he was not the body and he was one with the Father.

Because The Passion of Christ came during the rise of new age atheist and secular media, guess who owns the media, jews.
The Passion of Christ had a clear and powerful message that reminded us the suffering of Jesus on the cross was how we were saved, it's not suppose to be pretty, an innocent man is being tortured to death, Christ is allowing to be killed to save mankind from sin.

No, he was an Israelite and a christian, part of the twelve tribes, who was forced to live with edomite Canaanite pharisaical talmudists, whom he whipped from the temple, who had him arrested for "insurrection", and crucified.

Jews were never a part of the twelve tribes, the weren't even a part of the old testament after Jacob and esau, and we're always diametrically opposed to the teachings of christianity
