>nearly 40 year old series
>beloved by near on everyone who's heard of it, massive influence on swathes of pop culture, not just Eastern but Western
>literally only one good adaptation to the screen
>covers barely 10% of the original comic
>the others are puerile dogshit
Is there any hope of the normalfags getting a version of Berserk that's actually good and goes up to the modern day?
>>212695118 (OP)Yes. It will made by autists on /a/ and /tv/ with AI before 2035, in perfect retro-anime style. Let's hope Mori-san finishes the whole thing by then.
>>212695118 (OP)no one really cares anymore
berserk hasn't been good since the conviction arc
its not bad but current day berserk is just kinda meh
and yes, that was already the case before Miura died
>>212695118 (OP)Not for another 30 years most likely. It is only getting more and more expensive to make a "good" berserk adaptation as skill in the industry is dropping.
>>212698554This is also sorta true. The story even drags a bit during the conviction arc imo. It just loses its focus and direction and it's clear Miura had an idea to continue with but wasn't really sure how to get there so he just kept cramming in filler shit until he lost interest and could only do a chapter a year until he eventually died.
>>212695118 (OP)It covers the only good part of it.
There is a second good adaptation which are the two movies. Guess which part do they adapt?
anyone remember that qt girl who posted on /mu/ with the berserk neck tattoo?
>>212698554Isnt berserk edgelord shit? The art looks really cool.
It covers the only good part of the comic
>>212695118 (OP)i know this is blasphemous but maybeva netflix-funded animated series? i like their witcher animated flicks and the cyberpunk series was good too.
>>212701116yeah but it sometimes lets humanity and hope shine through the edginess.
Also the later parts have more mellow moments since the protagonist starts surrounding himself with companions, half of which are children or elves
>>212701046>that qt girl who posted on /mu/ with the berserk neck tattoohttps://desuarchive.org/mu/thread/119144610
>>212701388just know that chick has ruined someone's day and he's happy about it afterwards
>>212695118 (OP)This is supposed to go on /a/. Not /tv/. End your life.
>>212701116>>212701304i think berserk carries a good theme of being absolutely fearless and unrelenting in pursuit of your goals, no matter the odds - while simultaneously showing that doing so is not without risk and failure. the grimdark setting goes in service of that message
>>212701527yep, but it would have needed an ending to really send this message home. As of now the antagonists still seem basically invincible, and Guts is still ominously carrying a behelit of unknown purpose. Also the scope of the setting got too large imo, too much of the focus is directed away from our not so lone struggler for the sake of politics and shit
>>212695118 (OP)The guy who ruined Devil May Cry, that indian, just got Berserk rights so no
>>212695118 (OP)Even the original anime wasnโt great, it was just propped up by a god-tier ost. Itโs a glorified slideshow.
The only way weโre going to get a decent adaptation is with some Hellsing Ultimate style OVA. Or until AI is sophisticated enough. Iโm waiting to be able to prompt a panel-for-panel faithful adaptation with animation on par with Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust or Spriggan.
>>212695118 (OP)That's the power of a good director
>>212702179You kidding? 1997 is amazing.
>>212702349no it's not
this shit goes 1 frame per 10 second
All of the issues after miura have been horrible
>>212702615really? I heard a lot of people liked it around the time first of those had been realeased.
I looked up a few pages of the first one and realised that I don't really care about Berserk anymore.
Don't even want to re-read it like I did during the hiatuses
>>212701715>Guts is still ominously carrying a behelit of unknown purposewhat if guts uses the behelit to sacrifice griffith so he can gain his power and then kill the rest of the god hand?
>>212702832the only person Guts can sacrifice is Casca. It needs to be someone you truly love
>captcha: 4 KKK VY
>>212702938in order to hate someone you have to have loved them equally as much, nigger.
>>212702608>no it's notYes it is. The direction, pacing and iconic scenes are excellent.
One of my favorite scenes is when Zodd helps Guts during the fight with Rhino's army. You can really feel the presence of evil and future doom.
>>212701473hello newfag
yes /a/ is the containment board for anime but anime is still television and film related
just like how i can go make an anime thread on /b/ because it's the random content board, anime threads can be made on /tv/, now kys.
>>212695118 (OP)>the others are puerile dogshitthe second show sucks yeah but the golden age trilogy was kino and had a proper ending unlike 97
>>212702978If a random nigger sodomized you, would you tell everybody that you loved him, stupid faggot?
>>212703096rage and hate are two different things, retard.
>>212695118 (OP)It's got a lot of anatomically correct horses so it's never going to be animated. Even AI can't figure out horses.
>>21270251975% of the fans are retarded third world spics and other browns so the fanbase.is already total garbage.
>>212703155ok, you're a wagecuck, working tirelessly at retail.
And your boss is a huge asshole. You really hate this fuck with every fibre.
Does this mean you're closeted homo or what?
I don't really understand that thing about hate can only be felt towards people you loved. You can hate anybody, you need to know them in some way, but it doesn't have to be your relative, waifu, friend. etc.
>>212702704the drawings are very competent but they still feel off, also the chapters are still coming out extremely slowly and in 90% of them Guts is just doing nothing and being depressed (which, while understandable given that he just lost Casca again, is the last thing that the fans of this character would like to see). His determination will be back I'm sure, but they are teasing way it too much
>>212702978I don't think it counts, also I doubt you can sacrifice a member of the god hand even if reincarnated
>>212703284I miss the way Guts looked during Lost Children/Conviction arcs
>>212703284and just to make my point clear, Guts has been nothing but a mopey cuck for the last three irl years at this point
>>212703249but I like western dark fantasy
>>212703338yeah I wasn't a big fan of late Miura's artsyle either, it was beautifully detailed but not as gritty and striking as his old style
>>212703536>but I like western dark fantasyBerserk is just nip plagiarism of western fantasy
>>212703632Close, but the face and hair of Guts is inspired by Mad Max.
>>212695118 (OP)>covers barely 10% of the original comicBecause those 10% are the only parts of the manga that follow the same story. The rest of the books are little more than world building for 100 chapters, then it's back to the main story for like 5 pages and then it's time for more world building. It's almost 400 CHAPTERS and if you cut all the bullshit filler you'd have a 300 PAGE book.
Stop trying to make Berserk adaptations happen.
>>212701388That is the kind of girl who will key your car because she had a dream about you cheating on her.
>>212695118 (OP)The three part OVA is the best adaptation. And it's not good enough for [reasons] and the original anime isn't good enough for [reasons]. Berserk fans are fucking faggots who think butter wouldn't melt in their mouths. No adaptation would EVER be "good enough" for them.
>>212703815it needs to be 30%
Lost children + Conviction is a must
oh and people who say that
>>212703992Golden Age is the only good thing about Berserk are a bunch a fags who watched 1997 anime and thought that's what's the whole thing is about
>>212703918>excellent artstyleIt's excellent if you know nothing about art
>kickass fantasy tropesKickass Plagiarism of better works
>artistic spin on the aestheticsRipping off gustave dore and Bosch isn't really putting a kickass thing on spins
>>212695118 (OP)>massive influence on swathes of pop culture, not just Eastern but Westernit's literally the most derivative piece of fantasy slop ever made, the fuck it had an influence on besides edgy teenagers who love rape and gore
>>212704057Berserk fans are underage retards who think berserk is better than shakespeare and think berserk is a "nietzchean masterpiece"
>>212704054I don't give a shit about plagiarism, also I don't consider comics as high art so comparing Miura to Dore and Bosch feels silly, it's like getting angry that a cartoon's soundtrack has a piece of a Mozart's symphony in it.
Berserk is still a very entertaining read with better and more iconic art than 99.9% of other comics and manga
>>212704054>>212704281Blatant homages aren't plagiarism, retards.
The interesting part of Berserk is Guts, Band of the Hawk, Casca, Griffith, Demons, Skeleton Knight. That is Berserk and that is what people care about and that is the only reason why they keep adapting those chapters of the manga. Nobody gives a flying fuck about Guts and Friends roaming the world getting involved in completely unrelated dogshit introducing the 100th minor character that will be forgotten in the next chapter.
We've had like 50 chapters between every page of Skeleton Knight, Femto, Casca, Dragon Slayer, rape baby when that should be a clear line of continuation. Eclipse is over, here comes the Skeleton Knight who explains who the Demons really are and how to kill them, here comes Femto reminding Guts why he hates him, Casca is a blubbering mess but is making progress, hey Guts to stop the Demons you need to level up with Dragon Slayer gear, oh shit the rape baby is alive, but Guts don't forget that the Demons are still around and this is how we stop them.
There, this should be at most 2-3 arcs. Not 200 chapters.
>>212704354>>212704281It literally is plagiarism
Berserk is just a ripoff of corum, army of darkness and other western fantasy and pop culture shit with art that is just cribbed (in some cases traced) from bosch and dore
>>212704360Agreed. Miura lost the plot and hard. Berserk could have been finished in the 1990s if it were written compentently post-Eclipse. I suspect the editorial department made him milk it. Miura was obviously mentally and spiritually done with Berserk for decades yet was forced to keep working on it.
>>212704469I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Muira wasn't planning on running Berserk forever. The Eclipse as meant to be his big event that kicks the plot into 3rd gear but it was a massive success so he started stretching the story. Especially considering the fact that he removed the whole God chapter in subsequent prints of the arc because, i think, he was about to wrap it up in like 2-3 arcs. That is the only reason why a writer would ramp up the story like that. The Eclipse was supposed to be the end of the 2nd act.
>>212702704they wrapped up the boat journey back in like four panels, which was based. the art is alright, it's clearly not miura drawing it but it's passable. i'm still a few chapters behind on the new stuff, but apparently it's dragging a bit once again
>>212704442I didn't deny it I just said that it's a non-issue
>>212704360true, I couldn't give less of a fuck about the kushan empire or about the fucking logistics of how Falconia is managed, who the tf asked for this he should have kept the story tighter and simpler
>>212704773>>212704816Sorry, not quite bored enough to read this guys dissertation.
>>212704773>>212704816so true
what a horrible insult on miura's work and legacy
I am still seething that Miura died and we'll never get the real final arcs.
Anime does not make money. It just advertises the series. Berserk doesn't need it, especially now that Miura is dead.
Miura is a tragic figure imo. He was obviously forced to drag out Berserk against his own will, taking huge amounts of breaks because he lacked motivation to keep slaving away at it. His comic label eventually started letting him work on side projects to satiate his creative needs but then he was thrown back into Berserk hell again. I remember seeing personal sketches he did of various manga concepts and he would write little notes like "I hope I can do this someday..." with a sad little Pick doddled next to it. In the end he died young with Berserk incomplete and a piles of story concepts he never got to work on. A tragic waste of talent, a victim of the manga industry. RIP Kentaro Miura. You deserved better.
>>212705092Vagabond not ending is even worse imo, especially since the author is still alive and well
>>212703632And? When I was a kid the very real stereotype of japanese tourists going everywhere in our western countries with their Nikon and "stealing" all kinds of cool ideas and aesthetic was widely known. Just be grateful they used them for something equally cool.
>>212703249I look like this and say both are dogshit
>>212705720Vagabond finished with the farming arc. Character development is complete
I just read it and it's overrated as hell honestly. Very heavy handed with the Buddhism. No subtlety at all. He should stock to basketball. Well drawn though.
>>212695118 (OP)It doesn't need an adaptation, the original manga is perfect in every way.
>>212703284>he lost Casca again qrd? i'm like 30 chapters behind stopped reading even before miura od'd on loli asses
>>212695118 (OP)I'm convinced Berserk is the Neuromancer of manga, in that it's deeply influential to any number across the works over the years, but a straight adaptation is impossible. There's no overlap in the venn diagram of people who have the capability to adapt it faithfully and sincerely, without turning it into a farce, and people who are willing to adapt Lost Children
There will never be a good adaptation because the circumstances to make a good adaptation don't exist, nobody wants to attempt to animate Miura's art. Even the '96 anime, as good as it looks, is practically a slideshow
>>212705924I just want to see Musashi btfo the deaf faggot which is clearly supposed to be the big climax, Inoue kinda wrote himself into a corner by making the protagonist embrace buddhism early (although he did find a way to force him out of it before suspending the series). It's true that it's heavy handed with the philosophy but it's made with teenager readers in mind after all, the cool art and interesting characters still made it worth reading
>>212703931The new OVA looked like dogshit, that's why. The CG is awful and primitive, and it's nonstop. The OG anime at least had atmosphere despite the 1 frame a second animation.
>>212695118 (OP)>massive influence on swathes of pop culture, not just Eastern but WesternBerserkfags are genuinely some of the most deluded and braindead retards on the entire internet, lmao. You're so embarrassing and pathetic if you actually think that.
>>212706672Iโm guessing Silat will show up, if he hasnโt already, and Guts will work with the Kushan, and theyโll stage some kind of assault on Falconia, maybe squeezing another arc or two out of it that way.
Iโm personally ignoring it until the next Deluxe Edition hardcover comes out, and Iโll marathon the post-Miura stuff then. I read it as far as Griffith destroying the island, and stopped there.
>>212695118 (OP)The anime lost my interest when he defeats 100 soldiers alone. That level of Mary sue is unfathomable how anyone could find interesting
>>212707667Guts is supposed to be a freak of nature. There's a lot of remarks throughout the series by bystanders about his battles, sword and body size. It can be pretty silly but the story does acknowledge how ridiculous it is.
Guts would actually benefit more from using a properly sized and weighted weapon rather than a retard slab.
>>212701473yeah, not enough celebrity gossip
what the snood do? uhh why doesn't [random whore] star in movies anymore
>>212707334Pretty good guesses. And yeah following the story chapter by chapter simply ain't worth it rn given the pace, just a lot of build up and waiting
>>212707856>anon doesn't know about intimidate buildsOnly high level apostles and godhands are fear immune otherwise it's gg.
Big swords makes his cornugon feats of fighting prowess even more dazzling.
>>212707167tbf the Dark Souls games are extremely popular and heavily influenced by Berserk, but I can't think of anything else and nothing western inspired by it comes to mind
>>212707667well at the start of the story (in the manga at least) you see that he's become a demon-hunting madman down the line so killing 100 normal soldiers is in line with his power level progress. Anyways him surviving against all odds is a core concept in the story, this is not a series that concerns itself with realism at all. Watching only through the golden age stuff though I can see this coming out of nowhere, given that that's the most grounded and less fantastical arc
>>212708772apostles are the ones that fear his sword the most since it can actually kill them unlike any normal sized weapon which would break after two swings. Also iirc it was later revealed that all the demon killing he did with it made it cursed or some shit, making it even more lethal
>>212698554>>212698846This is it man. I was the biggest Berserk fag for a long time. I got the HK DVDs before it was officially released in NA in high school showed it to everyone I could. I bought the fucking Japanese volumes of the manga and printed out (sometimes partial) text translations to read along side them just to get more after the cliffhanger in the anime because I am an oldfag and scanlations didn't exist yet. Listened to the soundtrack, got obsessed with Susumu Hirasawa, played the Dreamcast game. Berserk was my fucking thing for a long time. But once it hit the 2010's and Miura started writing at a snail's pace, it wasn't just that it was so few and far between, it's pretty obvious the quality of the story got shaky and kinda unsure of itself and distracted after the whole Ganishka fight and stuff, and then the art got goofy and cartoony shortly after that. We got the disappointing movies, then the horrible 2016 series, and then Miura kept dragging his ass writing, and what we did get was a bunch of fruity loli fan service......and honestly when he died I just kinda thought "that's fine, it's best it just ended before he fucked it up completely and disgraced it, or was outted as a pedo or whatever." I still have fond memories of Berserk, but it's effectively over to me, I don't really care about trying to get another adaptation or his friend there trudging on with the manga.
>>212708772Take your retarded dnd logic and shove it up your downy ass
>>212695118 (OP)Nope.
Anime has now entered the normie-sphere and is basically going to be under the same pressures to be censored as everything else that the middle-classes get their hooks into. They already ruined music, videogames, movies, clubbing, music festivals and holiday destinations with their bland safetyism, inclusivity and perpetually offended sensibilities.
Now that they are the majority of anime watchers you will never see anything vaguely edgy or containing fanservice again.
Now anime is going to be overseen by soccer moms and HR roasties.
i like berserk and his adventures against the demons
>>212701116>Isnt berserk edgelord shit?Berserk invented many of the tropes that you would nowadays call edgelord shit, gotta give them credit for that at least.
