>literally only one good adaptation to the screen

Is there any hope of the normalfags getting a version of Berserk that's actually good and goes up to the modern day?

Yes. It will made by autists on /a/ and /tv/ with AI before 2035, in perfect retro-anime style. Let's hope Mori-san finishes the whole thing by then.

Not for another 30 years most likely. It is only getting more and more expensive to make a "good" berserk adaptation as skill in the industry is dropping.
>>212698554
This is also sorta true. The story even drags a bit during the conviction arc imo. It just loses its focus and direction and it's clear Miura had an idea to continue with but wasn't really sure how to get there so he just kept cramming in filler shit until he lost interest and could only do a chapter a year until he eventually died.

Also the later parts have more mellow moments since the protagonist starts surrounding himself with companions, half of which are children or elves

i think berserk carries a good theme of being absolutely fearless and unrelenting in pursuit of your goals, no matter the odds - while simultaneously showing that doing so is not without risk and failure. the grimdark setting goes in service of that message

yep, but it would have needed an ending to really send this message home. As of now the antagonists still seem basically invincible, and Guts is still ominously carrying a behelit of unknown purpose. Also the scope of the setting got too large imo, too much of the focus is directed away from our not so lone struggler for the sake of politics and shit

Even the original anime wasnโ€™t great, it was just propped up by a god-tier ost. Itโ€™s a glorified slideshow.

The only way weโ€™re going to get a decent adaptation is with some Hellsing Ultimate style OVA. Or until AI is sophisticated enough. Iโ€™m waiting to be able to prompt a panel-for-panel faithful adaptation with animation on par with Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust or Spriggan.

I don't really understand that thing about hate can only be felt towards people you loved. You can hate anybody, you need to know them in some way, but it doesn't have to be your relative, waifu, friend. etc.

the drawings are very competent but they still feel off, also the chapters are still coming out extremely slowly and in 90% of them Guts is just doing nothing and being depressed (which, while understandable given that he just lost Casca again, is the last thing that the fans of this character would like to see). Because those 10% are the only parts of the manga that follow the same story. The rest of the books are little more than world building for 100 chapters, then it's back to the main story for like 5 pages and then it's time for more world building. It's almost 400 CHAPTERS and if you cut all the bullshit filler you'd have a 300 PAGE book.

The interesting part of Berserk is Guts, Band of the Hawk, Casca, Griffith, Demons, Skeleton Knight. That is Berserk and that is what people care about and that is the only reason why they keep adapting those chapters of the manga. Nobody gives a flying fuck about Guts and Friends roaming the world getting involved in completely unrelated dogshit introducing the 100th minor character that will be forgotten in the next chapter.

We've had like 50 chapters between every page of Skeleton Knight, Femto, Casca, Dragon Slayer, rape baby when that should be a clear line of continuation. Eclipse is over, here comes the Skeleton Knight who explains who the Demons really are and how to kill them, here comes Femto reminding Guts why he hates him, Casca is a blubbering mess but is making progress, hey Guts to stop the Demons you need to level up with Dragon Slayer gear, oh shit the rape baby is alive, but Guts don't forget that the Demons are still around and this is how we stop them.

There, this should be at most 2-3 arcs. Not 200 chapters.

Agreed. Miura lost the plot and hard. Berserk could have been finished in the 1990s if it were written compentently post-Eclipse. I suspect the editorial department made him milk it. Miura was obviously mentally and spiritually done with Berserk for decades yet was forced to keep working on it.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Muira wasn't planning on running Berserk forever. The Eclipse as meant to be his big event that kicks the plot into 3rd gear but it was a massive success so he started stretching the story. Especially considering the fact that he removed the whole God chapter in subsequent prints of the arc because, i think, he was about to wrap it up in like 2-3 arcs. That is the only reason why a writer would ramp up the story like that. The Eclipse was supposed to be the end of the 2nd act.

Anime does not make money. It just advertises the series. Berserk doesn't need it, especially now that Miura is dead.

Miura is a tragic figure imo. He was obviously forced to drag out Berserk against his own will, taking huge amounts of breaks because he lacked motivation to keep slaving away at it. His comic label eventually started letting him work on side projects to satiate his creative needs but then he was thrown back into Berserk hell again. I remember seeing personal sketches he did of various manga concepts and he would write little notes like "I hope I can do this someday..." with a sad little Pick doddled next to it. In the end he died young with Berserk incomplete and a piles of story concepts he never got to work on. A tragic waste of talent, a victim of the manga industry. RIP Kentaro Miura. You deserved better.

And? When I was a kid the very real stereotype of japanese tourists going everywhere in our western countries with their Nikon and "stealing" all kinds of cool ideas and aesthetic was widely known. Just be grateful they used them for something equally cool.

Vagabond finished with the farming arc. Character development is complete

I just read it and it's overrated as hell honestly. Very heavy handed with the Buddhism. No subtlety at all. He should stock to basketball. Well drawn though.

I'm convinced Berserk is the Neuromancer of manga, in that it's deeply influential to any number across the works over the years, but a straight adaptation is impossible. There's no overlap in the venn diagram of people who have the capability to adapt it faithfully and sincerely, without turning it into a farce, and people who are willing to adapt Lost Children
There will never be a good adaptation because the circumstances to make a good adaptation don't exist, nobody wants to attempt to animate Miura's art. Even the '96 anime, as good as it looks, is practically a slideshow

I just want to see Musashi btfo the deaf faggot which is clearly supposed to be the big climax, Inoue kinda wrote himself into a corner by making the protagonist embrace buddhism early (although he did find a way to force him out of it before suspending the series). It's true that it's heavy handed with the philosophy but it's made with teenager readers in mind after all, the cool art and interesting characters still made it worth reading

>Griffith gets to elf island and goes LOL and LMAO and kidnaps Casca, allegedly because having reincarnated into Guts and Casca's son forces him to care a bit about them
>Guts fights as hard as he can but all he manages to do is cut a single hair of Griffith's, so he becomes extremely depressed
>the whole island sinks, all the jolly friends go away by boat
>they get assaulted and taken into custody by the kushan empire and some other shit happens idk I didn't care much at that point

The new OVA looked like dogshit, that's why. The CG is awful and primitive, and it's nonstop. The OG anime at least had atmosphere despite the 1 frame a second animation.

Iโ€™m guessing Silat will show up, if he hasnโ€™t already, and Guts will work with the Kushan, and theyโ€™ll stage some kind of assault on Falconia, maybe squeezing another arc or two out of it that way.

Iโ€™m personally ignoring it until the next Deluxe Edition hardcover comes out, and Iโ€™ll marathon the post-Miura stuff then. I read it as far as Griffith destroying the island, and stopped there.

Guts is supposed to be a freak of nature. There's a lot of remarks throughout the series by bystanders about his battles, sword and body size. It can be pretty silly but the story does acknowledge how ridiculous it is.

tbf the Dark Souls games are extremely popular and heavily influenced by Berserk, but I can't think of anything else and nothing western inspired by it comes to mind
>>212707667
well at the start of the story (in the manga at least) you see that he's become a demon-hunting madman down the line so killing 100 normal soldiers is in line with his power level progress. Anyways him surviving against all odds is a core concept in the story, this is not a series that concerns itself with realism at all. Watching only through the golden age stuff though I can see this coming out of nowhere, given that that's the most grounded and less fantastical arc

apostles are the ones that fear his sword the most since it can actually kill them unlike any normal sized weapon which would break after two swings. Also iirc it was later revealed that all the demon killing he did with it made it cursed or some shit, making it even more lethal

This is it man. I was the biggest Berserk fag for a long time. I got the HK DVDs before it was officially released in NA in high school showed it to everyone I could. I bought the fucking Japanese volumes of the manga and printed out (sometimes partial) text translations to read along side them just to get more after the cliffhanger in the anime because I am an oldfag and scanlations didn't exist yet. Listened to the soundtrack, got obsessed with Susumu Hirasawa, played the Dreamcast game. Berserk was my fucking thing for a long time. But once it hit the 2010's and Miura started writing at a snail's pace, it wasn't just that it was so few and far between, it's pretty obvious the quality of the story got shaky and kinda unsure of itself and distracted after the whole Ganishka fight and stuff, and then the art got goofy and cartoony shortly after that. We got the disappointing movies, then the horrible 2016 series, and then Miura kept dragging his ass writing, and what we did get was a bunch of fruity loli fan service......and honestly when he died I just kinda thought "that's fine, it's best it just ended before he fucked it up completely and disgraced it, or was outted as a pedo or whatever." I still have fond memories of Berserk, but it's effectively over to me, I don't really care about trying to get another adaptation or his friend there trudging on with the manga.

Nope.
Anime has now entered the normie-sphere and is basically going to be under the same pressures to be censored as everything else that the middle-classes get their hooks into. They already ruined music, videogames, movies, clubbing, music festivals and holiday destinations with their bland safetyism, inclusivity and perpetually offended sensibilities.
Now that they are the majority of anime watchers you will never see anything vaguely edgy or containing fanservice again.
Now anime is going to be overseen by soccer moms and HR roasties.
