they absolutely do. last gf was a huge psycho. she turned from a sweet girl into someone who ruined my life. after making these big scenes and her destroying my belongings and beating me she'd wait outside my apartment door at random hours. she'd leave me hand written four page notes complete with drawings about how her and I were meant to be together. eventually she found out where I worked and called there making horrible untrue claims about my character. eventually i had to file a restraining order. it's no joke, and I'm only telling you half the story.
