Yes, it's a fact that Snyder did catastrophic damage to the brand with his piece of shit movies. Honestly I'm surprised Gunn's Superman is doing so well under the circumstances.

Never forget, Snyder and his fans are literally dumb as fuck.

Bro it should have made over a billion because it's Batman and Superman meeting and fighting. When you consider that, even a near-900 mil figure is an underperformance and indicative of the weaker returns going forward. I recall MoS regarded as quite meh too. You'd have to be a total retard to not admit the mixed to terrible reviews did not really hurt those movies, and that the very positive critical/audience reception to 2025 counts for nothing going forward in regards to studio investment in DCU, faith in Gunn, etc.

In terms of BO I mean, like the hope was more of 800 mil because they were still riding the Nolan trilogy hype train. Case in point the MoS trailers, which were very good, were filled with PRAISE NOLAN comments. Snyder, the actual director, was barely even treated as a relevant party during the marketing phase at certain points

You aren't listening, BvS by all rights should have made over a billion because it's Batman and Superman meeting and fighting - that sort of shit gave them parity with Civil War having build up in prior MCU films. But CW grossed over a billion because of excellent reviews and BvS absolutely fell short of a billion because it got critically slated and the audiences were not fussed much either. For fuck's sake man, the R rated 2019 Joker made over a billion.

First: Word of mouth contributed to Man of Steel underperforming despite a strong start. On the other hand, word of mouth will help Superman gain momentum and achieve the success its predecessor couldn’t.

Secondly: The orange man damaged international relations, making peopleβ€”especially in Europe and Chinaβ€”more cautious about watching American movies, but word of mouth can mitigate this

Snyder raped Superman not the entire DC like how Schumacher only raped the Batman franchise. Also while not Snyder's fault WW2, Aquaman 2, and The Flash flopping tanked the DC brand even further leaving Gunn with a momentous task to regain the audience's goodwill unlike Snyder who inherited DC at the peak of its popularity.

People like to point out inflation but won't bring up the change in theater culture that's happened over the past decade. In 2013 theater was still the go-to for new movies, of course people were piling in, but ever since covid struck and people got more used to the idea of just watching at home ALL movies started doing worse at the theater. Box office numbers obviously aren't entirely irrelevant, and higher numbers are always better, but they're no longer the sole measure of success for a theatrical movie anymore.

i didn't mind Snyders superman, it was more interesting than any of the films that came before, they were boring as shit frankly, but Gunns attempt is the other end of the extreme, trying to make an emo, guardians of the galaxy style Superman, he's missed the mark aswell.

Maybe it really is just too damn hard to make a decent superman film that balances his real nature correctly, and he just worked better as a small-scale tv show, like lois and clark.

to anyone whose actually seen it, have they done any setup towards HOW he made sentient robots in Antarctica with non-human origin materials? You'd have to be an almost Tony-stark tier genius to do it, but Superman never really demonstrates extreme levels of engineering knowledge outside of being able to make these robots. Its frankly a big writing flaw that even in the comics i never saw properly addressed.

One of Superman's abilities in the comics (I'm just a casual fan, don't ask me a million questions) is super-intelligence. For example, he is fluent in every language on Earth (even the obscure ones) and never forgets anything. He's such a genius that he makes Tony Stark look like a retard by comparison. Honestly, his super-intelligence is his most underrated ability. Superman stories usually focus on his super-strength and his super-speed while ignoring his super-intelligence and that sucks.
