>Superman 122 million domestically with previes
>Man of steel 128 million domestically with previews

Why are they including the previews for Superman but not for Man of Steel when talking about the box office of it's opening weekend? I always included the Thursday night previews in my totals.

NTA but this is bullshit because BvS should have made over a billion, cause it's Batman meeting and fighting Superman. The terrible reviews hurt that movie and the good reviews took Civil War over a billion, and Batman and Superman being present gave that movie parity with Civil War have a few years of MCU movies behind it (I mean for fuck sake, forget DC for a sec, we can also see how Age of Ultron was hurt by a far more mixed response vs. the acclaim of The Avengers)

>why the hell does any of this matters at all
Because Man of Steel was about a young white individual who actively sought out and finally attained meaning in his life and his place in society. This new Superman movie is about a little bitch who gets told what to do by everybody else including his girlfriend and gets his ass kicked repeatedly. Finally he accepts his place as a little bitch and learns to do what he's told.

What I've just shown to you is a thing called "subtext". Take the time to learn what it means and what the movies you're watching are really trying to tell you.

>who actively sought out
No he wasn't lol, Clark was drifting aimlessly. He discovered the Kryptonian ship by pure luck of overhearing the two soldiers. I had such a bug up my ass about MoS's first act because the excellent third trailer had a bit where the music really builds as soon as we see a shot of Clark looking at the frozen ship and gave me this yearning for act one to be a real journey of Clark seeking and seeking and seeking answers and it being a very intimate experience vs. the reality of it being a fluk and the military and Lois presense there getting in the way

Why do jeets get so angry over Clark having to be in a real fight when it's with a clone preprogrammed by autists to counter his moves and a very powerful metahuman vs. the FUCKING BORING bullshit in the Snyder movies where he never takes any damage in a fight when Kryptonite isn't physically present? In MoS and BvS, Clark unleashing a sick combo on Zod and Doomsday and vice versa doesn't fucking matter because they never take a lick of damage - all they ever accomplished was physically displacing each other from where they were standing/floating.

He's not drifting aimlessly, he's following his father's edict to keep a low profile, the same thing that God is father killed. Overhearing the soldiers talk is just a plot gimmick to move the story along to the point where he decides he's going to find out who he really is. Joseph Campbell called this the "call to adventure"...Luke Skywalker does it when he gets a mysterious message from a captive princess ( that's also quite coincidental). You must be a Zoomer if you're not familiar with this storytelling technique.

You've literally swapped the themes of the movies. Man of Steel had Clark aimlessly wandering through life until he discovers a message from his parents telling him what he should do, meanwhile Superman 2025 is about him deciding to ignore authority (the US government and his parents) in order to make his own choices and do what he believes is the right thing.

Their superior fighting skills did fuck all in the end - Faora unleashed a sick combo on him but he's fine, he's no physically worse for wear, ultimately. Him and Zod fought absolutely fruitlessly.
>Zod unleashed flurry of kicks and combos on Superman = nothing accomplished except Clark has been displaced physically and is a few 100 metres away from where he was earlier
>Alternatively, Superman unleashed flurry of kicks and combos on Zod = nothing accomplished except the general has been displaced physically and is a few 100 metres away from where he was earlier

Yes but not in a negative way. It left superfags cautiously optimistic. Among the GA it was pretty good. The BO wasnโ€™t spectacular but it did beat all the phase 1 mcu films barring Avengers. WB was really happy because they made most of the budget back before the film even came out.

But there was actual strategy used to get Ultraman into the black hole though. Instead of just mindless punching he realizes Lex can't actually control Ultraman without the drones, gets Krypto to destroy them, severly nerfing Ultraman's effectiveness. They even did a callback to Lex saying brains beats brawn earlier in the fight.

It's an event movie, pal, and event movie with Batman and Superman meeting on the big screen which audience had not seen before. By all rights, it should have made a billion. If Infinity War, as an example, made 'only' 1.1 billion it would quite rightly be seen as a massive underperformance/failure. And the MCU had their movies to build up shit but DC had iconic status of Batman and Superman which I'd say gave them parity regarding the hype train. CW got over a billion cause of its reviews, BvS failed because of bad reviews and bad word of mouth. It was an under fucking performer, get over it.

The problem is, almost everyone outside the US dislikes the movie or feels lukewarm about it at best. As much as everyone wants to deny it, the movie will fail because it tries so hard to be "Not-Snyderverse-like", so they went on the complete opposite direction and ended up with a story without meaningful emotional beats or proper context to the story, so it becomes hollow action-slop without characters to care about. I don't think Gunn is incompetent, but there was to much pressure to distance the movie from Snyder's vision
