They were flopping big time towards the end, and I guess cause they wanted BvS and JL to do one billion and when they didn't viewed the films themselves as the flaws and this go around a sub 500 million Superman gets pinned on brand tarnishment from Snyder era.

Let me play the devil's advocate.
As long Superman isn't a Flash-tier bomb, "a modest success" that just falls short of breaking even, with positive social media buzz is good enough for Warner, because it shows that they have an audience who wants more content, which pays off in the long term. They can tank a loss if it means they can build a stable "consumer base" like the MCU has which translates in bigger successes in the future.
