Nicholas Hoult is a strange one.
He's a solid actor who pulls off the roles he's given but he isn't memorable and never gives a stand-out performance. He hasn't ever done anything to deserve hatred or strong praise and he's in a ridiculous number of co-star roles. For this reason, he wasn't a good choice for Lex Luthor. Lex needs to be played by someone who can give a strong, memorable performance because the bad guy is a major piece of the pie in any superhero movie, maybe even more important than the hero. I can actually buy Hoult's Lex doing this, which therefore makes him the best film version of Lex ever.
