Hard to pick. So many great ones, such a stacked genre. Winchester โ€˜73 is one of the best ones that doesnโ€™t get recommended enough imo.

I just can't take James Stewart seriously as a Western lead. Liberty Valance was the only great one because he played the dandy.

I used to be like that too back when I was like a teenager and just thought of him as that dork from Itโ€™s A Wonderful Life with the funny voice that they used in cartoons a lot. As an adult Iโ€™ve seen him in so many great movies and in so many different varied roles that itโ€™s nothing to see him as a cowboy. I could even buy him as a Mountain Man in How The West Was Won. The guy clearly knew how to ride and shoot and he had a military pedigree under his belt so he blended right into the role imo.

As far as who these guys really were when it comes to old hollywood stars, Jimmy was by far the coolest. But he was never as cool as John Wayne or Clint Eastwood on screen in the west.

The Far Country remains my favorite Steward Western, as wells as for Mann. The whole concept of "Northerns" and the gold rush story remains underused in Westerns.

I still think the โ€˜The Man who Shot Liberty Valanceโ€™ is one of the best, at least the last great of the old westerns before the revisionist spaghetti westerns and then Clint.

>>212729235
Pale Rider > High Plains Drifter. Theyโ€™re pretty similar films as well, almost as if Eastwood was having another shot at the same idea.

I'm sure there are way more I can't think of. I really liked the first Horizon and can't wait for more. Westerns are hard to come by these days. Hostiles was one of the really good modern ones.

why does Harmonica go outside the woman's house in the middle of night, make noise, and light a match? and when the woman fires her shotgun at his match, he drops the match but continues playing. what is supposed to have happened? realistically he should be dying.

And the next morning, in the stable, Harmonica meets the woman and rips off her collar thing, and something she has on her arms. what's he doing that for? makes him look like a total nutter.

and before all this, there's a scene where that fat guy is sneaking into the laundry building in the middle of night, and Harmonica is waiting for him to come sneaking. what was that about? in a later scene he appears to be like a manager or something at the laundry. so why does he need to sneak around there at night?
