>>212742240Superman needed a film where he is the star. James Gunn doesn't know how to do that so his approach to the film was incredibly lackadaisal. He doesn't understand the character of Superman. At all. Because Gunn doesn't understand God or how in the west Superman is supposed to be the fictional character that's the closest hop and step away from bridging the gap to the Almighty and reverence for him. Superman is supposed to be the icon. The daddy figure. The leader of the Justice League everyone relies on because if Clark is missing there's no chance of victory so all hope also goes out the window.
You don't write Superman screeching like a pansy going "WHERE'S LE DOG???" Gunn should've read more comicbook interactions between Lex and Clark to respect their dynamic. He says he identified more with Lex, the flawed human, which is why Lex gets the bulk of scenes.
Lois should've really taken it easy on Clark during that interview. She should've been more feminine and understanding to his plight and built him up as opposed to tearing him down, picking at his ego, throwing "Supershit" at him when she knows it hurts his feelings and then doing absolutely nothing to apologize or make it better directly in the moment like a sympathetic supportive woman would. Too much of Gunn writing his own experiences into the script instead of the ideal of Superman. I don't want to be the Superman Gunn has envisioned. And neither does he.
