I just rewatched Chain of Command
>changes the shifts to more efficient four shift pattern
>reroutes power and manpower to better handle combat
>relieves that hothead Riker out of his duty, he was cramping his style
>negotiates with the Cardassians confidently even though he was shooting in the dark
>single-handedly traps a Cardassian invasion fleet with mines into a star nebula, preventing the invasion and possible war
>even uses the situation as a bargaining chip to rescue Picard from certain doom
His only fault was making the crew feel tense and he had to give Riker the satisfaction of getting to shit on his personality a little, but he was a true MVP.

I did something similar when watching DS9. I was someway into the 2nd season and things were feeling a little drab so I jumped ahead and watched the highest rated episode "In the pale moonlight" and was like 'holy shit that was great I can't wait to get to this level of kino' and it invigorated my DS9 experience knowing that the series will inevitably pick up.
I just wanted to replicate that experience and find a bit of inspiration to power through the rest of season 2 of Voyager.

Duet 9.0

As I said in an earlier post I was into season 2 when I jumped ahead to The Pale Moonlight.
Duet was my first "OK this show can be really great given the chance" moment and inspired me to keep going. There has been no "Duet" like moment in Voyager season 1.
I just watched the silver robot episode directed by J. Frakes in season 2 (Prototype is it called?) and that felt like it could have been a classic moral dilemma Trek episode but I dunno, Voyager just hasn't clicked yet.

"Criticism is a study by which men grow important and formidable at a very small expence. The power of invention has been conferred by nature upon few, and the labour of learning those sciences which may by mere labour be obtained is too great to be willingly endured; but every man can exert such judgement as he has upon the works of others; and he whom nature has made weak, and idleness keeps ignorant, may yet support his vanity by the name of a Critick." -Samuel Johnson, "The Idler"

Rewatch Voy log stardate 48546.2
Insaneway seriously injuries a innocent space creature because it might have coffee
The tiresome adventures of Paris and the Holodeck begins
Neelix proves once again he is the most annoying gerbil in existence
The Doctor being a condescending prick is better then I remember
Ackoo-Chee-Moya is introduced its as hilariously insensitive and stupid as ever

The Voyage into S1 continues with a mounting fatigue but also a sense of hope that if viewed as a comedy its makes for a better time all round.

The Thaw is a fucking awful episode. The clown/circus bullshit completely invalidates the entire premise. Oh, but people are afraid of clowns, you say. Shut the fuck up. How did anyone take that fucking episode seriously? They should have framed the episode around something grotesque, at least, and not a god damn circus.

oh I know the captain proton ones are great fun, but I also know the irish village is coming sooner or later, and there is still many horribly boring misadventures of Paris and his holodeck, I do like the Maquis take over though, that ones great, its not coming from along time though, s4 iirc?

I don't know, man. The idea of clowns and the circus on the surface level is not disturbing. But the idea of being fucking trapped in there indefinitely with that music playing 24/7, no sleep, constantly harassed, that does sound like something that would drive most reasonable people fucking insane after a while.

Sure, it would. But the viewer gets that shit for 44 minutes. It's parody at best and annoying at worst in that time frame. They needed to drive the point home really quickly, not have people consider the implications of being trapped with clowns forever 30 years after the episode aired.
