All this drama over Superman is going to repeat next year when Resident Evil is rebooted. Take a franchise where an auteur took over for years and impressed his own identity onto a series of films. Now a director beloved by nerds is trying to reboot it. However, a key difference is that where Gunn desperately tried to appeal to older Superman fans, Cregger knows that his take is going to come with controversy.

They already rebooted it twice and failed.

Just make Leon and Claire the MCs who work through the plot of RE2 together. Boom there you go film solved. Also Ada is there but she gets killed off quickly because no one likes that gross homewrecking asian bitch.

Gunn and Cregger are very popular with a particular kind of nerd audience. That's just a fact.

Would RE or RE2 work better as the source material for a movie?

>his film won't be completely obedient to existing lore
Why the fuck do they do this?

Why?
Nobody wants this, ever.

Isn't that just WTRC but with dead Ada?

Nah you just take the two major plotlines of Claire and Leon and mash them together, making them a team instead of two separate story lines. The entire film would follow them as they journey deeper into the police station, sewers, and eventually the nest or whatever.

No one want's to see lame ass mold monsters. Fuck RE7, overrated shite game.

It's an original story with a completely original cast.

Too many characters. RE2 would be a great launching point for a franchise since it really only needs 2 main characters, a couple of supporting characters, a one antagonist.

know what irks me, when you have a story set in the 80-90s and then they just set it in our days, as if the existence of mobile phones wouldn't change everything.
So they better at least set it there.

But what I think the big question would be....should it be straight horror or cheesy camp like the games are?
Anonymous No.212766925 >>212767019

RE0 through RE3 were very much horror games. It only started getting camp with RE4 and then just went off the rails with RE6. I think it could work as a film if they stuck to the pure horror installments at first and then maybe branched out.

Apparently the script is floating around. I'm surprised no one has posted it publicly like the Weapons script.

Alright I'll take the cheesyness in the first games as accidental then, I guess it make sense since the remakes sort of fixed the istances where it happened.

No script remain untouched once the movie starts getting directed.
I am not to keen on judging it on based on that.

Except wveryone is happy that the awful "authorial" element of Snyder was removed, since nobody liked that

Some people also didn't like Paul W.S. Anderson's heavy-handed authorship of Resident Evil. Let's see how this pans out.

resident evil games have no story or characters that are not shit so it makes sense not putting literal saturday morning shit tier garbage like wesker into the movie

The last film had pajeet Leon, twink Chris, and goblina Jill. There is no way the reboot could be worse than that.

The only RE game that has actual character development is RE7. That should be the one they start with. It's about a loser 20-something who gets dumped remotely by his gf and then tracks her down to see what's wrong. Once there shenanigans happen and he emerges as a tough mold based motherfucker.

Some Umbrella scientists working in a remote hospital fuck up and their monsters are on the loose. They order some anti-mutant serum or something through the mail so their bosses don't find out and shitcan them. The infection causes people to grow slimy tentacles that act independently. The movie kicks off when the courier delivering the package hits a mutated woman. That's the basic concept.

What's interesting is that The House of the Dead is also being filmed later this year.
