I have never been to LA but this is my general impression of it
>from the sky - kino skyline
>from the ground - either a dystopian rundown shithole of homeless people, or a dystopian elite nightmare of materialism
as tends to be the case in the US though cities sprawl absurdly far and LA is more of a region than a city at this point, and with that in mind I know there are some pretty cozy suburbs/peripheral settlements. Orange county CA apparently is pretty nice.

LA is the most overrated city on planet earth. The โ€œCalifornia Dreamingโ€ meme hasnโ€™t been true in 20+ years and you can get the same lifestyle and quality of life in any major American city nowadays without all the fentyfolding homeless zombies and Mexican taco stands taking up the sidewalk

Figueroa is actually crazy. Thereโ€™s a couple mile stretch along the street between the E/W streets numbered 99-70 where young ladies are practically butt ass naked. Wearing neon pink and green thongs. Pussy lips hanging out. Nipples barely covered. Broad daylight. This photo is tame. Youโ€™ll see a fat Mexican lady walking her 4 year old kids past a 17 year old black chick with her tits out flirting with a cop. Itโ€™s extremely grim but also (NOT MY PROBLEM)

In the heat of the day, every time you go away
I have to piece my life together
Every time you're away
In the heat of the day

In the dark of the night, every time I turn the light
I feel that God is not in Heaven
In the dark of the night
The dark of the night

I wonder why I live alone here
I wonder why we spend these nights together
Is this the room I'll live my life forever?
I wonder why in LA
To live and die in LA

I wonder why we waste our lives here
When we could run away to paradise
But I am held in some invisible vise
And I can't get away
To live and die in LA

Is it retarded that I want to move to Los Angeles for the vibe? Even if i have absolutely no bone in my body that wants to live in NYC? Im just about to finish my zoology degree and am considering doubling in engineering so i can find employment in the big city. Something about LA speaks to me, the beach, entertainment, food, the nearby deserts. If it werenโ€™t for crime and cost, it would be my most ideal place but I think a 25 year old manchild like me isnโ€™t meant to handle the kind of brass LA puts out

Yes, it's retarded. You'll be living with roommates unless you can afford to pay +$2000/month for a small studio. Or you can get something cheaper but then you'll be looking at 1.5-2.5 hour drive to "beach and entertainment". The traffic will make you want to kill yourself, you'll get a chronic cough from all the smog and you'll never be able to afford a house since ALL of them cost at least 7 figures. You'll probably get mugged repeatedly and your car will be broken into multiple times.

No, that's literally the reason why people move to LA in the first place. Most of this thread is sour grapes. Growing up here you really do take for granted waking up on a lazy Sunday and driving to the beach to do nothing. Maybe visit the free world class art museum on the ocean (parking is still $15)
It is expensive, but most people complaining about the cost of living are NEETs or got shitty liberal arts degrees. There are a shit ton of jobs here and starting salary at the financial services company I work at is $80k a year.

If you can make enough to live on the west side south of Long Beach all the way down to San Diego (so not really LA), you will live in one of the most kino areas in the world and one of the best parts of socal. If you are young enough and single you will also have access to some of the prettiest women in the world imo. If you still want to be near LA then west side OC is the best option, unless of course you're made of money and can afford to live on the west side to the north or the hills.

That's true, but I was trying to dissuade him from that. In my experience, all of the things he likes about LA he can find the same or better of in OC, except maybe entertainment but if you leave at the right time the drive to LA is not *that* bad. I lived on the west side for awhile and I would only consider returning to LA if I was rich enough to live in the hills.

Escape from New York
A science fiction film shot in St. Louis, including scenes at the abandoned Fox Theater and Union Station
The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery is a 1959 American heist film directed by Charles Guggenheim and starring Steve McQueen

Plane, Trains and Automobiles" (1987) features a key scene at Lambert International Airport.

I think St. Louis was way bigger in the 1940's-80s. I think if the population of United States ever hit a billion Whites could just decide to live here for the hell of it because Indians and Muslims aren't here or some reason.

As a Britbong who's only experience with LA is through Youtube videos and movies, it's definitely a kino city for cinema, in that cinema can romanticize it. The skyline, surrounding nature, hills and different districts, they allow for great visuals and wide potential in the narratives a script wants to tell. It's a great city to view through a dark mirror, but in reality living there with all the "diverse" people (lol), crack addicts, cost of living and overpopulation must be hell on earth.

Most of it is not overcrowded anon, just like with any parks if you avoid going during peak season/major holidays there are vast stretches of trail/parkland where you can avoid seeing another soul if that's your jam, and even the popular parks and trails are not too crowded if you avoid peak hours. Central Park for example typically gets far more crowded than any LA parks do, but that's because it is THE NYC park and a little more accessible than most trails in LA. We have snow in the mountains and decent skiing at big bear in the winter not too far away. During Covid you could go from the beach to the snow in like an hour or so, still possible on Christmas day I imagine.
I will say long island is also pretty kino and not too far away for NYC.

you have to be from there to never actually realize just how bad it is as you delude yourself via the thousands of transplants who constantly stream in thinking it is some sort of magical place to make it.

you don't even realize how bad it is on a basic fucking level like air quality until you get your one week of rain in the year and it washes away all the ash, smoke and filth floating around you all day long and you actually get to see everything clearly for once. all the while this cleansing much needed rain overruns your infrastructure not built for it within a single 24 hour period and you get to post up and watch tents, needles, and whatever else float past you as streets shut down from flooding. in a functional society i would not be given the option to tag team a crack pipe on a 2min walk.

ket is getting popular everywhere. i don't like it desu. i usually just drink and do blow. i live in NYC now, i havea. guy who delivers in about 15 minutes, most the time it's pretty good and rocky/re rocked. i got the runs once from it lol

checked. it's interesting having lived in both. LA does have nature i used to love hiking griffith park, but so much is sprawled out strip malls and concrete that it can be a really ugly 'city' for being in such a beautiful region. i don't really like west LA though, i find it looks ugly and even tho the women are hot they aren't fun. I grew up always outside but I miss nature less than i thought. I live in Brooklyn though, it's not as claustrophobic as some parts of Manhattan can get, lots of parks that make up for it being a real city, like i said prospect park is gorgeous. Also NYC is more social the women are beautiful and also fun, my body count tripled when i moved here. we drink heavily though so i'll probably die young lol

>Los Angeles literally has a huge abandoned tower complex in the middle of its downtown. It's full of homeless, street urchins, and thugs. The outside is completely tagged up, it's called graffiti tower and it's across the street from the sports arena where the Lakers play and popstar perform.
I thought yeah ok maybe some 5 over 1 that got caught up in the developer's financing games but it's actual skyscrapers. This would cost a billion dollars or more and it's just sitting there. That is so much money (and housing) just totally wasted.

as someone who has lived in the OC all of my life aside from college in Chicongo, I can full heartedly say LA is the biggest shit hole there is. Tons of homeless, everything is spread out and you need to sit in traffic, and all the remaining nice places are remote and/or controlled by pear clutchers. not to mention the chosen ones everywhere.

My wife loves to go to LA for some dumb fucking reason whenever she can and can never really give me a reason other than "it's different. or there's some dumb tiktok shit there she wants to try". Parking is a pain in the ass everywhere as well. And the arabs/armenians are some of the worst people as well to deal with and they love LA.

Fail to see what LA offers that the OC doesnt, and since I live in North OC, at worst I can go to Long Beach and it pretty much offers whatever I would want in LA without having to step foot on the 101/5 fwy near Commerce. Only thing I can say is that it is better now with the MExicans pushing the nogs out inland and it feels safer. But I say that as a white skinned mexican/cuban.

I challenge anyone to say what the OC/LB lacks that you can only get in LA. Only thing I can think of is the amount of chinks/zips here can be annoying.

Los Angeles still has a great art/music scene. Last I checked.

But yeah, it's a city living in arrested development, or maybe cancer imo. It was designed to be a certain way that worked up until the 70s. Now it's overgrown and dying. Too clogged, too open, things that were "modern" 50 years ago are still there but old and degraded. Too expensive to be a place where a bunch of media techs and hippies live.

the people who work there intentionally avoid poor people so you never will

I was born in the CIty of LA (San Pedro) and I've lived in LA county most of my life. Here are the pros and cons:

Pros:
Best weather in the country
Beaches
Lots of entertainment options
Lots of job opportunities
Can lanesplit on a motorcycle
People that are born here are special

Cons:
Expensive
Too crowded/too much traffic
Too many blacks and immigrants
Too many homeless
Tax and Spend Democrats run every level of government

I spend way too much money going to all of the different theaters in LA.
Tomorrow I'm seeing Point Break, Friday is Amadeus, Saturday is Die Hard, and on Sunday I'm watching Boogie Nights.

Only the first and second cities in America have sky scrapers. Meanwhile, Hong Kong beats them both. In terms of aesthetics.

The areas surrounding L.A. are far more kino. This mission is older than the country(not by much but still). The place is a shithole but there are several spots that still have soul.

Sounds like San Diego suits you better. L.A. proper is basically a pvp server. It is very difficult to find cheap housing here but not impossible. I live on the outskirts of Altadena for less than $1500. However, that cesspool has a certain charm to it, as long as you keep your wits about you and your head on a swivel. Just stay away.

A ton of museums, Broadway, NYPL, pizzerias, Nathan's hot dogs, Brooklyn bridge, a revitalized Brooklyn, stadiums. It's probably the #1 filmed place in all of USA that walking is all you need in your itinerary. The fact that you don't need a car to get around is a major plus
