>“Domestically, ‘Superman’ stuck the landing, but international numbers are disappointing,” says box office analyst Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations of the $95 million overseas haul. “For ‘Superman’ to be one of the biggest summer blockbusters — not to mention reset an entire universe — the film needed to pack more punch in its debut. Obviously, the following weeks will tell the true box office tale, but this has to be viewed as a slightly underwhelming start for DC and WB.”
>The film cost $225 million and another $125 million to market globally, the latter including pricey stunts like a Superman figure hovering at the apex of London’s tallest building, The Shard, on July 1. One rival studio executive estimated that the Shard gambit alone cost seven figures. Warners always believed that Superman would under-index internationally because the titular hero is inextricably linked with “the American way.”
>Typically, a film’s stars earn the top salaries. But in this case, Gunn was by far the highest earner, pulling down 20 times more than David Corenswet (Superman/Clark Kent) and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), who each earned $750,000 to Gunn’s $15 million, according to sources (Gunn also draws a seven-figure salary as the studio’s top executive).
>Although Warner Bros. has sequel options on Corenswet and Brosnahan, a sequel announcement does not appear to be imminent. Instead, sources say the studio is fast-tracking a “Wonder Woman” movie. And the studio is thrilled with Matt Reeves’ just-submitted screenplay draft for the sequel to “The Batman.”

So basically they lost faith on the new Superman and are now counting on Batman and Wonder Woman.

The movie was also just an excuse for Gunn to make some money, for himself.

Fucking retards. The only DCU projects that should exist are Superman, and Superman 2 in preproduction. Peacemaker, Lanterns, Clayface, and Supergirl might as well be throwing money into the toilet. Also WW is massively overvalued. The first movie was Black Panther for women and it shant be repeated.

>I-its a box office bomb, honest you guys! Look at this, after hours of research I finally found this one article saying it could've done better overseas! Ha ha "COULD'VE DONE BETTER OVERSEAS!!!" So that means it's a failure, right guys?
>G-guys?

I never realized how utterly pathetic Snyderjeets were until these last couple of weeks. They're so crazily desperate for some schadenfreude to validate their shitty taste that they've reduced themselves to a cringeworthy joke.

A sad end for Snydertrash.

>Peacemaker, Lanterns, Clayface, and Supergirl
Peacemaker and Clayface work really well as lower budget projects that can lean more into their satire and horror respectively. Clayface in particular is probably awardbait that's intended to trade money for prestige for the brand.
>Also WW is massively overvalued.
Agree with this. Supergirl can at least be attached to Superman. Wonder Woman is a boring character and her lore is boring Greek fanfiction. But they gotta do her movie if they're gonna make a Justice League.

They're fast tracking her movie because they think the previous one did so well and are copying with the idea that Superman bombed internationally because Superman is too "American", so they hope that Wonder Woman can be more accepted internationally.

Your a retard if you think Superman underperforming internationally is a good thing. Superman underperforming is forcing Warner bros to fast track a Wonder Woman film to get there DC trinity billion dollar film out as fast as possible and forcing Reeves Batman in the DCU.Gunn fucking failed. If his Superman was a hit they wouldn't be doing that. They could just rely on his Superman to sale tickets. Warner bros is basically doing the same micromanagement shit that killed the Snyderverse. So yes Superman was a flop because Gunn didn't deliver on the box office and now they are getting worried and forcing him to change his slate.

The only way to actually “build” the brand is to make a Superman 2 and see if it fares any better. It’s going to just break even. Make no mistake there isn’t a single character in the DCU that will make more money than Superman. Supergirl is already projected to make less, what makes Wonder Woman any different? The current product is unsustainable. You need an existing international audience. If Supergirl flops then what.

Mmhm even if it had a miraculous 40% drop on its second week, that would still mean it'll barely get near 400million. Then on its third week with F4, a 60+ drop is guaranteed. It did 220million first week. If it has a 50% drop, that'll be 330million on its second week. After that, with F4, let's say its only a 50% drop from the 110million it did on its second week, that's 55million. Putting it at 385million on its first three weeks and that's being generous. If its in theaters for 2 months, and those remaining 5 weeks it makes 200 million then that puts it at 585 million which is a lot of the predictions that have been coming out. Even MoS did more than that.

Yeah, no shit. There was a charm to Superman being an American hero. If you give him "global" sensibilities and jeet CGI you immediately lose the quality and appeal of real American hero/production. They should have burned local before widening the scope. They probably really only care about mass market appeal to sell their toys to kids and manchildren far and wide, though.

I do not care for Gunn's edgy subversive takes on the superhero genre. Its like he can't allow superheroes to be earnest and good. There must be a flaw and vulnerability to it. Almost how Snyder injects realism with religious undertones, Gunn injects ironic and edgy takes on to them. Giving him a character like Superman that is established to represent certain things and have him put his ironic edgy 14 humor to it was a mistake. Even the Justicr League cartoons made for children have more maturity.

Gunn is always good at making characters different. that just happens to mean there is always one character who takes the mandatory crass douche role.

only in Guardians and Peacemaker is that guy also the main character.

> They're fast tracking her movie because they think the previous one did so well and are copying with the idea that Superman bombed internationally because Superman is too "American", so they hope that Wonder Woman can be more accepted internationally.

Gunn was talking about WW before Superman was even released. If it was bombing like you idiots claim, they wouldn’t do a solo WW movie. They’d wait and see how Supergirl would do. And WW be last character you’d pick if trying to ton American aspect down. Her iconic costume is star spangled banner and her symbol is the American bald eagle

I'd expect to walk away with at least a million or 1.5m after taxes for a major franchise level film. Studio is going to counter with FU unknown new guy and how even RDJ was paid a reported 500k for the first Iron Man.
If the film is a hit you make way more in the future.

I think the movie did what it needed to do, be well received and a moderate hit, does that mean this new DCU cinematic universe is going to be like peak Marvel was? No it won't, people are done with this whole cinematic universe shit, only way this can be reliable is if they keep the budgets way way down but I doubt they'll get billion dollar hits at all, if ever

Only capeshit I see hitting a billion in the upcoming years are the Avengers movies because they're filled with memberberries and RDJ returning, and even then they will still make LESS than both Infinity War and Endgame
I think making a cinematic universe in 2025 is the wrong way to approach this garbage, not like James Gunn really gives a shit as he wasn't into playing ball with Marvel during peak capeshit years, I think all he cares about is his own shows and movies and getting a fat paycheck, but once he actually gets down to running the franchise like Feige did he will probably leave

The Gunnverse is probably in decent shape as long as Gunn doesn't direct anymore (and they find another cinematographer). He's a darling of like 50 people on the internet and thousands of bots but that doesn't always translate to the box office. That's why he only did 3 Guardians movies and was shown the door instead of taking on bigger projects like an Avengers movie

Yeah, both of them dipshit. Both are tied into extant movie storylines folks had already invested in, and both characters have existed for decades. One was a super friend, and the other has the name of the entire comic publisher. Can you make your point?

BvS made money despite the entire media was against it, from paid critics and shill articles to Disney bots. And most of the criticism was shut up with the director's cut that sold gazillions. We dont' have home market anymore for the streaming so Superman had no other way to make money besides the box office. It's over fot Gunn unless he met WB execs on his pedo parties

I just saw it and I don't think we need a Superman 2 right away. This set up the world pretty well, we've got multiple other heroes and the beginnings of a Justice League. The scene of him talking to Lois while they fight the big glowing thing in the background without him set the tone pretty well for me. This is a world with Superman, and yeah he might turn up every now and again, but it's also full of other heroes, other villains, a bunch of other comic book stuff.
I'd rather see them take a swing at a few other standalone movies with a few Superman teamups and cameos, before setting up a big threat for Superman 2 to focus on.

"Knees" is a tab hyperbolic but let's also not use invalid comparisons. Start with US year-on-year trending: WTTC confirm revenue was $181bn in 2014, with an original projection of +9% in international visitors in 2025. This is has been revised due to a YTD fall in demand... annual projection is now $169bn with Canadians especially showing a -20% drop in visitors. USA is now the only country (out 184 studied) with a projected reduction in international visitor spending. If your business and livelihood disproportionately revolves around these state based dwindling revenue streams, you won't care much about how France or Spain are doing.

Those are also shill threads, or anons unwittingly participating in the viral campaign. The point of adversarial marketing is to manufacture as much controversy as possible since it leads to higher visibility of the product. Technically I'm likely participating in this viral campaign too by engaging in these threads.

The Snyder threads are an attempt to manufacture a console war between two properties owned by the same company. Regardless of which side of this artificial dichotomy you fall on, Warner profits.

Warner does this more often and more effectively than any other corporation.

Tobey's Spider-Man was rebooted after the third movie proved to be a disappointment. There were plans at the time for a fourth movie.
Garfield's Spider-Man couldn't even complete its trilogy, and Sony at the time had this huge expansive plan for their movies.
The old Spider-Man were leased to the MCU because their past attempts were eventually met with failures.

These are the facts.

no... mcu and sony have a deal worked out to share conditional licences for the character of spiderman, but sony made those movies and decisions. MCU only is responsibe for spiderman as he appears in their films.

Well, according to the WB shill above the new Superman is underperforming compared to the past MCU movies because the MCU brought back all the old actors. Guess they should have stuck with Cavill, after all.

You guys complain about Synder fans but you are acting like what you describe them as. You are coping when the reality is that it's doing bad overseas. That's the truth. If you are terminally online person like Angry Joe you'd blame it on Trump but the reality is that super heroes movies have reverted to their old box office if you check super hero movies overall. The few good movies in the early 2000s and the MCU have skewed how people international box offices for these movies worked before. After several bombs from Phases 4 & 5 of the MCU and the previous DC universe, we've gone back to how they usually performed at the box office. We're not in the golden age of super hero movies and likely on the precipice of them being phased out for whatever is the next hot thing which is either anime or video game movies.

So what? Has nothing to do with the movie and everything to do with current US politics. Don’t even say it doesn’t. China loves The Flash but now straight up boycotting Superman just like they did Captain America earlier this year
