Without any dialogue, or really any plot or characters, the movie relies a lot on its aesthetic. To me, it's aesthetic and general style didn't work for me. It just came across as what an outcast teenager in the 80s would think is cool, and felt very generic.
It's like walking through a gallery of art that just says nothing to you. I'd rather watch Nightmare Before Christmas or Coraline.

That's what I heard, but then looking into it, it seems misleading. He wanted to make it 30 years ago but gave up on it, and then more recently got crowdfunding and actually made it. So, it was made in a normal amount of time for a low budget "indie" movie. The way they say it, it makes you think he had been actually making the movie for 30 years continuously.
