It would make sense that he runs rings around Sam because Sam is a grifter who isn't funny. Sam has plenty of funny bits but is never really that funny himself. He is better at producing and should stick to it.
There are plenty of actual comedians out there which he could produce for and come up with some good stuff. He clearly knows talented people and could cobble together a highly successful team. The problem is that Sam needs to be on camera and wants to be the cult leader.

I'd go into how a comic needs to find their voice and style but it will turn into a Joe Rogan 'comedy is art' wanker post and I don't intend that. I just think that stand up is what makes really funny people and generation talents find a voice that they can use during that period. Sam has none of that.
