Don't read too much into this. Colbert is 61 years old, and no late night host last forever. The show has no value other than the Colbert name; so unlike the Tonight Show, there is no value with passing the baton to a new host.

These numbers are horrible, and the 18-49 demo numbers must be atrocious. Modern network TV is dead. Guys like Leno and Letterman could command big salaries because the rest of the show was cheap to produce, and the ad revenue still made them profitable. I doubt these current hosts are willing to take big pay cuts to stay on air.
