Avatar 2 did what it needed to do just fine, that being introducing the new batch of characters who will take up the mantle, and setting up stakes (humanity fighting for survival, Jake's family being persecuted, Quaritch having a rogue son, whales being mystical beings of great importance, Kiri being the Pan-Avatar).

I enjoyed Avatar 2 greatly in a theater but in retrospective admit that it mostly served as

>the tool to establish Quatrich's resurrection
>give somewhat a breathing window to Jake and Neytiri (movie is less tragedy heavy, has more downtime)
All these parts could be more or less shown in the what will be a third movie, except for Water Tribe.

I suspect 2,3,4 movies will be all spaced out very little, creating the bulk of the story
1st one is a prologue, then there is like 16 years pf the timeskip, 2,3,4 movies happening with almost no time skips or they will be miniscule, then another timeskip and 5th movie will be an epilogue.
