But he was cryptic on the phone and when Quinn came, he knocked on the van, where Dexter is still inside with the corpse of the guy and blood leaking out. There was a tiny drop of blood dropping on Quinn's shoe, which he didn't notice. Later the police was called to the scene, including Quinn and someone noticed the blood drop on Quinn's shoe and everyone suspected him.
Dexter did the blood work, but lied for Quinn, which Quinn felt very thankful for, even though he himself had no reason to believe that the blood on his shoe was of his friend, since he knew he didn't kill him. But at that point he completely dropped his suspicions regarding Dexter and even defended Dexter's "self-defense" excuse, when Dexter murdered the killer of his sister, who was in custody and in handcuffs in the Miami police department. Because when a cop forgives you for something, your crime doesn't go to court, that is also how Dexter was able to kill a cop in self-defense, when he was in a holding cell in the police department in New Blood.
