The Xenomorph is one of the few cases where it's more chilling that it's not a skull-face. Covering the design with a visor but leaving it only just visible was ballsy but the linchpin of the final design.
Did Giger actually design it that way or did someone get involved?

wew, I forgot how bad this was. Actually, I forgot it existed until I decided to watch all the Predator movies.
The cast is full of well known actors but there's ZERO chemistry between them, it takes place on Halloween (lots of kids around, but they're never in danger), and the lighting makes it look like an episode of Modern Family.
Also, the poster is similar to that one interracial meme.

The NECA Big Chap figure is easily the best sculpted Big Chap you can get, especially for the price. It's just a shame that NECA's stuff is so fragile and it's a 50/50 shot as to whether it's going to be broken coming straight out the box and that the paint can be pretty sloppy sometimes. That's why I never "upgraded" from the very pre-posed first version they did.
Picrel is the 1/4 scale version, but it's the same sculpt.

The weird thing about that moment is that the intention was that you can see the Predator's true for through the reflection in the puddle in the alley. Like that water negated the light-bending effect of the cloak, but the Predator fades into view when the camera tilts down (it also dissolves between two different Predator shots, one where he's standing and a second where he's easing into a crouch), which gives the impression that the cloak is just turning off, only to be working again in the next shot. It's a neat idea, and definitely one they should bring back now that it's easier to do the cloak effect, but it's just weirdly executed in the film.

I adore the ingenuity of older effects companies, so while I have no problem with CGI being used where appropriate, it being the go-to solution for so many films now that it has killed a lot of really smart techniques, especially ones that are very format specific like this for example.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y15uRLNC7kQ
Spoiler for those who don't want to know the trick.
The make-up applied to the actress was a very strong colour (red if I recall correctly) and a coloured lens the same shade as the make-up was placed in front of the camera. When she transforms the lens was removed causing the make-up effect to become visible to the camera.
This technique is only really possible for black and white films, but it works so damn well and is in-camera, which means it will look as good today as it did then and will in another 100 years.

In development at Universal and later Francis Ford Coppola’s production company American Zoetrope, The Tourist was a surreal sci-fi drama about a young executive who also happens to be a shapeshifting alien. Set in a future Los Angeles on the brink of ecological collapse, it was about a genetically-engineered monster causing havoc on a moving train. The film never happened, though some of Giger’s ideas wound up in 1995’s Species, including an oddly out-of-place nightmare sequence in which a young Michelle Williams is glimpsed running from a bio-mechanical ghost train. That came straight from Giger’s work on Dead Reckoning, and Giger reportedly sank $100,000 of his own money into making the killer train in his studio.

Nor does the protagonist realise that the mirror is also a portal to another dimension.
>β€œIn that dimension, machines rule and not humans. They were created by humans, but humans have long since died out – [the machines] probably killed them. This takes place millions of years into the future in their world anyway. They’re trying to recreate humanity, so they’re stealing people and taking them back to that world. I have seen all species a few years ago. The first one is pretty good. Forest Whitaker was kinda cute in it, no homo.

They try to give the franchise a new chance. Wishmaster also has potential.

>In the wake of The Mirror, Malone embarked on another project: a space horror called Dead Star. As Giger once noted, its concept was essentially β€œHellraiser in space”: in the 23rd century, a space expedition to a planet called Daveros leads to the discovery of an ancient alien artefact. The object, dubbed the Shard, turns out to be capable of opening a portal into another dimension (much like The Mirror, in fact), and from it emerges the Devil itself.
>β€œYou could basically go to Hell – Hell was a real place and you could go there through this Shard,” Malone explains. β€œIn a way it was a spin on the Australian film, Dead Calm. Dead Calm set in space. This guy shows up on the research vehicle with this device and all hell breaks loose – literally.”
kek that Hellraiser in space happened but this film didn't.

Romero is a cuck. He literally tried to hide the fact he chose a black by saying
>oh there was no one else to pick even though that black guy was the only one in a 500 mile radius.

Wishmaster is a great concept and would be easy to pick up. But like Nightmare on Elm Street it needs the right actor to be the Wishmaster or it falls apart.

The two first hellraisers could have created such an amazing universe, but instead they started making quick cash grabs with 'what if it was hellraiser, but a family drama? nuts, ain't it?'.

Would The Species works in 2025? Not only part of the appeal is the mutant design but the core concept of the movie is a fast growing hybrid fucking machine. But unlike the Alien, it's way more graphic when it comes to sex, and we know americans are pussies.

People that post this shit about Giger (it's pronounced "Gee-ger") clearly aren't familiar with the man beyond his art. The stuff Giger painted came from his nightmares, which he put into art in an attempt to get the visions OUT of his head, and when he wasn't doing that he was doing drugs to try and find relief from the nightmares. Giger may have understood, and to an extent appreciated the beauty in the horrors that he painted, but he most definitely did not enjoy them or get off to them.

The erotic horror genre is pretty emaciated now that anyone can watch hardcore porn anywhere anytime on a phone.
That said, yes it'd still be kino. The question is who to cast (aside from Sydney Sweeney)

We need a charismatic dude like Andrew Divoff but knowing the franchise and its lack of appeal, it can't be an A lister. Too bad Macmahon died, he was the perfect dude for the role.
