The drama is actually the kino part, it's the butchering of Asimov plotlines that prevents it from being genuinely good

Very unoriginal. Galactic empire in the brink of collapse fighting the resistance, a powerful trade alliance, a planet destroying laser. Now who's copying who?

i dont care, im not watching it, I've seen enough of them shitting on Asimov in season 1.

Im currently reading book 3 of the Three-Body trilogy, and i will give a chance to show about that, either the western or the chinese adaptation. fuck this show

then again assimov was a bit of a socialist commie
he'd probably welcome the changes if it wasn't his own work

whenever Foundation comes up, I feel like I'm the only person in the world who actually read the whole thing. Foundation is a dogshit piece of literature coarsely peppered with cool ideas. All the stories combined make for a tiny book and it still felt too long

She is some religious preistess o a religion which Demerzel believes in, she wants to confess and understand her own conflicts. Demerzel will get her memories wiped and restored anyway

I flipped through a foundation novel once and quickly realized why the only thing I'd ever heard people discuss about Azimov were his credentials. Some writers elevate bland material. Azimov took interesting topics and made them bland.

Anonymous No.212863388 >>212863703

its a series, and it add ups to around 3000 pages

so the idea that its a "short novel" is fucking idiotic
thats like, fuck knows, 100 hours worth of reading time?
Anonymous No.212863581 >>212863703
>>212863086
it's Foundation the novel, actually a compilation of short stories published in pulps in the 1940s, that is way before most of the usual sci-fi tropes you can find inside became tropes. it's actually Asimov who popularised them.
but there are two others novels/compilations which continue the story.
plus two sequel novels written decades later and two other prequel novels written even later. those have a very different tone and more or less ruin the original ruin by trying to tie it with Asimov's 1950s robot novels which were never planned to be in the same continuity.

why would I read 3,000 pages of a series if the first book fucking sucked?

>>212863581
>that is way before most of the usual sci-fi tropes you can find inside became tropes.
yeah, it's cool reading the first-evers for "planet that is a huge city" and "warp drives" and "lost technology cult". But ideas alone do not a good book make, the book itself is just endless navel-gazing and genius off-screen plots which are exposited to the reader only after they have occurred. it's written like a clumsy Boy Detective novel in space
Anonymous No.212863866
>>212863703
the short stories of the other two volumes are much longer and more character-driven. there are only 3 parts in the second and 2 parts in the third.
also Asimov was only 22 when he wrote the first stories while studying. no one denies it's a beginner's work.

Anonymous No.212864110

the whole point of Foundation is that the plan follows a mathematical certainty, and therefore individuals cannot avoid its determenism. In one of stories there is that general of Empire, who goes to destroy Foundation, and simply refuses to accept that "the dead hand of Seldon" will stop him because thats what Seldon's prophecy says will happen.

I've been reading some Asimov again (mostly his later stuff to be fair) and I'm finding his writing style a lot more engaging and even exciting than I used to. Simple yet clear and propulsive, it's no frills drama and problem solving in a good way. I'll be revisiting Foundation next so we'll see how it compares.

I'm under the impression the damage was insidious enough that the nanites don't recognize the aging as damage needing repair.
