I liked flash, yeah the effect sucked and all that but something in its emotional core did resonate with me and made me tear up when he was saying goodbye to his mom
I don't need grandiloquent plots, super special effects or actors worth tens of millions of dollars, I just need the movie to make me feel something on an emotional level.

Although I will say as someone who saw both, Superman has way better effects, probably mostly because it wasn’t restricted by COVID like Flash was, who couldn’t even use a real desert but had to create all the backgrounds with CGI which is why the 3rd act looked like a vidya game

This was one of the least earnest films I've seen in years. All the bright colors and optimism was bullshit. Neither Corwenswet's performance nor the script had any conviction. It was a disingenuous, borderline sarcastic take on an old-fashioned, golly gee willikers Superman. A parody. A two hour, two hundred million dollar SNL skit.

Back from the cinema, can finally post the picture I took before the movie started
I should preface my review by saying that I have no idea what's up with the current DC universe continuity, didn't watch anything DC since the dark knight trinity so I basically came in clean
If I have to sum up the film in one word: American. So very American.

I guess I can see why people are saying it's "good" if we're talking in a "return to roots" kind of way, just pure comic capeman energy, feels like something an audience back in the 80s would have legitimately enjoyed. It manages to feel a like a fresh, honest superhero film on the specific backdrop of all the literal dogshit they've been putting out lately.
What makes me conflicted is how the film sort of set up to become something way darker (superman facing the consequences of just doing "good" things all willy nilly) with the villains being an actual legit threat and having superman against the ropes for most of the film, yet the sitcom comedy and the comic writer deus ex machina kinda nipped that in the bud.
Like, shit, I was legitimately shocked when Lex fucking shot falafel man dead right in front of superman, the scene did a great job at showing the villains meant business, but the rest of the film sort of goes back to the more superficial sitcom mood with niggerman cracking jokes so it feels like wasted potential to make something that really questions what heroism means.
Overall it's ok, if you take it for what it is then you can't really say it's a bad film, but I feel like it could have been so much more.

he was alright, nothing too amazing though, i feel the humor and simplicity of the film kinda took away the potential for having a deeper character development you know, something like questioning what heroism and what doing the right thing really means and entails, like one moment he's questioning the meaning of his existence, the next the stupid dog is doing stupid shit and the atmosphere just fizzles away
We never really got into pushing the boundaries of the goody two shoes persona, like when he complains that coconut head and niggerman killed the big lizard, I naturally expected to see a degree of antihero behavior, or at least darker thoughts and impulses before him just behaving like a good guy because uhhhh he just is.
I truly expected falafel man getting killed to bring something raw and dark out of him but it just got forgotten and handwaved by comic magic. So again, just wasted potential.
