It is good. Monday morning quarterbacks would say the timing is wrong, releasing the movie in the middle of summer blockbuster season. But there's a world where a mid budget crowd pleasing horror movie with a recognizable main character could do very well in the Summer for anyone looking for an alternative to family friendly blockbusters.

Which ultimately leads to the criticism that this is more of a family friendly action film than a horror movie...which is fair. But it is a good movie regardless. And honestly, following the Terminator trajectory of action horror--> sci fi action for the sequel isn't a terrible idea, it just didn't work financially with this movie.

Just finished and we liked it even more than the first one. Maybe it didn't do well due to it being less horror and more an action flick with two robots fighting. It's ridiculous and campy, so we had quite a few laughs like with the Steven Seagal references and M3gan singing that Kate Bush song.

Problem is they over estimated how popular M3gan was, or in this case wasn’t. First was a success solely because it came out when there was nothing out and a stupid TikTok dance. Only very popular character can genre swap. Freddy, Jason, Chucky, The Terminator. It would be like genre swapping Annabell

Isn't Final Destination Bloodlines one of the highest grossing films this year with a May release? And I Know What You Did Last Sunmer reboot just came out, we'll see how that does, but I can see it doing well.

Also those Conjuring and Insidious movies have Summer releases and do great. Again, obviously it didn't work for M3gan, but it's not like it never works. Talk To Me and Longlegs also had July release dates and did way better than anyone would think. If they flopped, people would say it's because they released in Summer, but since they did well, no one brings the release date up

None of those movies hinge on a marquee horror character, except Longlegs, in theory
though one of the biggest complaints about that movie was that Cage wasn't in it enough
And you'd have to cross reference what they opened against, M3GAN 2 was up against F1. And most, if not all the movies you listed were from the corona years for example.
Final Destination 6 is also a nostalgia pull, that would be doing much better if it came out in January, too. Probably would've turned Nosferatu into a flop. I think also M3GAN 2 would've beaten Nosferatu if they hit at the same time, but that had no competition at all.

The reason it bombed is because for some dumbass reason they made Megan "lgbt," bullshit. She literally posted in character how she 'saw them,' and wanted them to 'stay slaying.' It was pathetic.

Honestly all they had to do was keep her nonsexual to any gender and do a pinocchio storyline where the series finale was her turning real and finally being adopted and having a real family and sister. Instead we get

>In a post-mortem interview with the podcast The Town that just released today, Jason Blum shares his surprisingly honest thoughts about the box office failure of M3GAN 2.0, which Blumhouse was at point expecting to debut with upwards of $45 million. That tracking number went further and further down as the weeks went on, with the film ultimately debuting to a fraction of those early hopes. Blum admits, β€œWe all thought M3GAN was like Superman. We could do anything to her. We could change genres. We could put her in the summer. We could make her look different. We could turn her from a bad guy into a good guy. And we kind of classically over thought how powerful people’s engagement was really with her.”

When did things get so bad
I see girls pull this shit when there's literally no camera around, when the environment and circumstances are the most antithetical. I've seen girls bust suggestive poses and sexual moves as if they're filming tiktoks for invisible phones/cameras in the hospital, in the airport at 06:00 while waiting for their bags, waiting for the bus under the scorching sun, waiting in cashier lines etc.
And it's always fucking teenies, it's never young adults or zoomer sluts who do this shit. It's the little kids, often dressed like whores with mommy's approval(lives vicariously through her daughters), who do this shit.

This is the problem, I think.
They had Amie in a green-man suit instead of regular clothes, so M3GAN's outfits were I guess potentially never actually real in the second movie.
And besides that, they clearly went overboard with the post-effect facial animations. In the first movie M3GAN's face moved like a doll's face would, in 2.0 they animated her like a cartoon character.
