My schizo theory is that Sam wanted to act retarded during the last couple podcasts he did, but the power dynamic with the hosts made that borderline impossible. So he assumed he could strongarm Harland into being his bitch and lashed out when it was impossible to literally and figuratively wrestle himself into control. People are focusing way too much on this appearance and not analyzing how he conducted himself on other shows.

I saw Dave Attel with friends at a comedy club about 15 years ago and we invited him back to a friends for an after hours party. He was hilarious and cool.

Harland was always a weird comedian. I don't know what his other podcast bits are like, but this didn't seem too out of line with Harland's own aggressively unserious appearances on Conan.
