The thing that always puts me off Man of Steel's ending is that Superman shows so much emotion about killing Zod but shows absolutely zero care for all the people dead/dying in Metropolis. He and Lois share a passionate kiss while the ashes of the dead are falling on them and while there are tens of thousands of people trapped in rubble crying out for help, which Superman can probably hear. A simple scene where he simply notices and reacts to all the death his battle with Zod caused would have gone a long way. Like even him just looking slightly sad while staring at Metropolis would have gone a long way.

Superman reacted more to snapping Zod's neck than he did to his own father dying. Superman did not react at all to entire buildings getting destroyed (That certainly had people in them). It was the antithesis of Superman, which makes sense when you watch the rest of Snyder's trilogy: from the very beginning he intended to do a Superman that would become a villain and then die.

It might have worked out, but suits seemingly intervened at Justice League instead of just seeing it through, then Snyder lost his heat and stopped at the Snyder cut which was a completely unabated shit show.

I think superman killing general zod was because there was some kind of pressure from outside sources to make such an unhinged grimdark superman story. It was only a few years before the grumbling of Trumps first presidency, and nationalism resurgence that was probably already well established back then depending on what crowd you associated with. I don't actually know for sure, I didn't watch or follow politics too closely back then. But for some reason, after Trump was elected, art, culture and entertainment got really dark, abrasive and kind of crass in some instances, I'm not sure why Trump being elected was such a dark time necessarily.

But it's interesting because Man of Steel seemed to predict and start that trend before it ever became more common and popular.

Plus, I've said it before but MoS just seemed like a big military advertisement propaganda. In retrospect, I thought the movie played with some interesting philosophical ideas that are a little apolitical, the movie sort of has right wing conservative seeming sentiment it feels. But it was made during a time when like everything was dark like that. The 2010s was pretty much like a repeat of the great repression in a lot of ways, but culturally they did this as well. I remember people trying to force all these fucked up trends on everyone, like undercuts and shit and that dirty 30s rustic folk feel.

One thing I liked about this new superman isthat it kind of had a 'wild west' feel to it in a sense, the way the characters were portrayed it's hard to describe it as anything else.

Wdym? Pa Kent was unfathomablely well written and actually had depth and nuances. He was an everyday man whose entire reflection on life changed with the drowning of the horses when he thought he was doing good. Now, this same man is given a gift of a son, but not an everyday son like the everyday man he is, but a literal God. Not only now does Pa Kent have the weight of his morality on him, but now the whole world's due to his superpower kid. When all in reality, he just wanted a human son. When all in reality, he was just trying to do good. His character is meant to be tragic, I don't understand why people don't get this. Clark honoring his wishes in the Tornado Scene is him finally accrpting him as his dad, also a human cannot save a human in that situation. Clark humbling himself is letting Pa get his wish, of having a human son. Not only that, Pa Kent left to save the dog without the intent of Clark saving him. He did that out of the morality of his soul. Which is projected onto Clark.
