I find older movies infinitely more rewatchable than modern movies.
An "okay" or even "pretty decent" modern horror movie is one that I'll likely never watch again in my life, whereas even the technically shittiest old horror movies, I'll end up rewatching late at night. They have a certain quality to them that's easier on the eyes. Simpler on the mind. The audio also plays a big part.

Storm of the Century overall was good. The ending was a bit muted, could have used a stronger monologue or a hint of what an alternate would have meant. But like most horror it's easier to get payoffs in the ascent than the ending.
