Verification of "Truth, Justice in the Global Homo way'? Total dealbreaker for me.

very simply put, Gunn tried to do to much in one movie. starting a movie with all of that text was a sure sign the movie was bloated garbage.

the other issue was purely the weight of the threat was more cartoony than it shouldve been. the tone was all over the place. how do we go from saving squirrels to having Lex exposite his feels for superman after being six steps ahead the entire film.

Gunn wanted to give Superman room to grow without doing an origin, but still had to hit all the notes of doing the origin. Had to set Lex up to be the baddie he was, had to do relationship with Lois, showcase Clark's naivety at this point in, had to add marvel style quips, had to do Ultraman, had to do social media nods and 'Gunn gets the zeitgeist' moments, had to add political commentary, had to add multiple threats to divert and create 'tension' and moral choices for superman to solve creatively. Threats need to be humanistic and super, get it.

It was a messy try. Enjoyable but messy.

The character is simple, godly, and empathetic. they almost captured that, but the convoluted plot and poor writing ruined it.

Gunn has the right ideas and style for it to have worked, but he crammed too much shit in. Shouldve culled this back until it was just an action packed starter mission, like we are picking up Issue #2.

I'm so glad capeshit is finally dead, these movies make Bay's Transformers good in comparison.

the writing is bad. the production is bad. It's not the fault of any particular character or any particular scene. You either see it or you dont. It doesnt have that quality that huge blockbusters with huge budgets should have.
