It's running out of gas. Vin Diesel is almost 60 and fat. They'll inevitably try some garbo next-generation soft-reboot with kids, but audience interest is waning. The movies have clownish budgets and their boxoffice isn't justifying it anymore. The last one with Brian (Paul Walker) is the highest grossing. Diesel is claiming the next one ("the last one" ... for now) will bring him back, which shows the level of desperation they're hitting.
