>>212903611 (OP)Trek post 2005 has aids
I will burn your heart in a fire.
This is a CARDASSIAN station, Jake
Apologies to the /trek/ for going political. It was not my intention. Carry on. Peace and Long Life.
>>212903611 (OP)Q. What do incels around here and Riker have in common on the holodeck?
A. One wants a band, the other a girl, both with "bones for me".
Why did DS9 have so many side characters when TNG barely had any?
And if TNG did they appeared in 1 episode per season a-la Q or Lwaxana. Perhaps Ro too.
Recurring DS9 characters
>Dukat, Garak, Dumar, Female Changeling, Weyoun, Rom, Nog, Zek, Leeta, Keiko, Kai Winn, Vedek Bareil, Shakaar, Sloan, Michael Eddington, Vic Fontaine, Brunt, Martok, Gowron, Ishka, Ziyal, Morn, Admiral Ross, Enabran Tain, Lwaxana Troi (again), Kasidy Yates
Rewatching TNG just feels so empty after seeing DS9.
>>212903791No worries have a comfy evening anon
>>212903809What was it again they wanted to do on Risa?
>>212903841I'd answer, but I don't care for your reddit frog.
>>212903849What is this anti-cat propaganda? Just kidding, Vic.
>>212903841Tng had a bunch
Tomolok
Ro laren
Reg
Obrien
Guinan
Various admirals
Lore
Kurn
Kailess
Alexander
LUXWANNA
All the fucking klingons
Sarek
>the list goes on and on
>>212903791Wh-what happened while I was at work?
>>212903910We already have cats serving in Star Fleet.
>>212903926I went a little Benny Sisko about Far Beyond the Stars.
>>212903924almost all of those are a 1 ep per season deal though
after seeing them once you knew they'd be gone for quite a while
with DS9 side characters you got the feel they could show up at any moment
>>212903841>>212903924It's not that there's more. the DS9 ones simply steal the show.
>>212903926he got angry at Trek Women for Kamala (it's all of them)
>>212903841Change was just barely starting turning shows into ongoing drama. Only soap operas did that for decades, most shows did not. Character arc? Say what?
Someone figured out that, when done well at least, it was popular and added to the show. Same thing for movies, the best have a resolution to the main conflict, as well as some arc development of a character.
Except for Ghostbusters.
>Does 1 year at Starfleet Academy
>returns for a little bit of field duty
>get put on the Defiant's bridge during the most crucial war the Federation has ever been involved in

>hasn't even graduated starfleet academy yet
uh bros??
>>212904033Ugggh I weep for the boys who crushed on Gates back in the day. She looks like rubber or wax now.

>>212904033I'm going to bite my tongue on this one lmao.
>>212904126For real, this was a glaring "come on" from me. Agree that it makes so little sense for Nog to be where he is.
>>212904126>is played by an old man
>>212904223He wasn't even part of Red Squad (until that one episode at least).
He was a very adequate cadet.
Put him in the engine room sure but the bridge?
When DS9 has 3000 people and god knows how many Starfleet and Bajoran militia personnel at their disposal?
Odd stuff.
>>212904262Nog's age was pretty in line with Eisenberg's age though, wasn't it?
>23-24 in S1, 29-30 in S7hmm a little older than I guess
Sisko did say that Nog is older than Jake though. Perhaps Ferengi develop a little slower which is why he attended school with him?
Nog probably had near the best arc of anyone on the show, despite it jumping logic a little bit.
Remember how he was just a troublemaker in S1? Night and Day.
>In the Star Trek: Discovery episode "Die Trying" that aired November 12, 2020, Eisenberg was honored by a flyby of an Eisenberg-class ship named the USS Nog with the registry number of NCC-325070
god damn do I hate it when they break the 4th wall like this
When Kira and Bashir have that completely gratuitous scene in the infirmary where she exlaims "This is all your fault you know" pointing at her pregnant belly I wanted to punch a hole in the wall.
>>212904142I'm one of them, and it's a horrible existence.

>>212904424>When Kira and Bashir have that completely gratuitous scene in the infirmary where she exlaims "This is all your fault you know" pointing at her pregnant belly I wanted to punch a hole in the wall. That's subtle and cute though.
>>212904662It added absolutely nothing to the episode other than to break the 4th wall and rub our face in it.
>>212904739Sometimes a joke is just a joke my good sire.
>>212904739Ahem, I'm tempted to agree, and also the whole DC Fontana thing in Far Beyond the Stars is another stupid 4th wall breaking thing. A science fiction story about science fiction writers? D'yikes.

Odo and Garak
how could it not be
its too bad this didnt work on half bajorans

>>212905547I cant believe that there weren't hundreds of half Cardie children on Bajor. it's kinda farfetched that she couldn't fit in to the degree it was too distressing to even live there
>>212902719Me tool. It poked fun where it needed to be poked.
>>212903991Fair
>>212903989>almost all of those are a 1 ep per season deal thoughYes anon you said side/recurring characters. Those aren't characters you would see all the time on a show about a spaceship that travels to unknown parts of the galaxy. Unless it's guinan or Obrien because they live there.
>after seeing them once you knew they'd be gone for quite a whileYes tng was on a ship in space that was moving, not a stationary outpost
>with DS9 side characters you got the feel they could show up at any momentMost people lived in constant dread of the episodes where my wife visits her daughter. But they can fuck off

>>212905777Also raises the question of if they used Nick instead of Tom Paris for Voyager, would he have turned out to be a better person given he was given a positive atmosphere to deal with his problems or would he still fester into the monster he was?
Reminder that Star Trek discussion is anathema to these invaders. Discuss a good in-depth Trek topic and their interest in the thread will wither on the vine.
What's the best S2 episode of TNG?
>>212906802Answer the question about Nick first.
>>212906802Measure of a Man is one of the best of the series, let alone season 2
>>212906802Elementary dear data, measure of a man and q who. Pretty standard takes, but all good. Iโll even throw peak performance in there just cause itโs a good data episode with that great Picard line at the end.
>>212906979If Nick Locarno was used instead of Tom Paris, your spoiler text is silly as shit too because you were giving a valid topic.
>>212906851>>212906963I'm with you but Q Who is the clear winner imo.
Measure of a Man is a bit overrated. It has great moments but it's ultimately a flawed premise.
>Data's sentience and right to exist as an individual was never questioned in his 20+ years of Starfleet experience (he clarifies he's been in Starfleet for 26 years in the episode where he stops the Romulan blockade run)It beggars belief a little bit, doesn't it? Fine Picard speech though.
also Maddox seems a bit TOO evil for a Starfleet guy. How the fuck did he pass his psyche profile?
>>212907027Not sure what you're talking about, I probably have the post you're talking about filtered and didn't even see it. But they didn't use Locarno because they didn't want to pay the writer of The First Duty for 7 years of Voyager residuals.
>>212904582SUSAN SARANDON
>>212907040Maddox doesn't seem evil and it's not really a "flawed premise" that in 25 years no one had specifically wanted to dismantle and research him which is a highly specific situation where human rights come into question whereas they were taken for granted before
>>212907077Pickle Trek brought him back as a gag like they do with anything.
Locarno actively manipulated and tried to conceal the accident. He never showed remorse, only regret for getting caught.
Paris screwed up and his conscience made him come clean to face the consequences.
They are not the same.
>>212907040I agree with you about measure of man. Itโs a great idea for an episode, but given context, as you point out, it falters. If somebody was going to dissect data it wouldโve happened shortly after he was found not decades into a career. Itโs a great casual watch for people who are loosely familiar with Trek or who havenโt seen a lot of episodes.
>>212907137Well, no, but wouldn't they discuss his sentience and his rights as an individual on his actual entrance to Starfleet Academy?
It's meant to be really hard to get into the Academy. You're scrutinized in a ton of different ways, not just academically but also psychologically.
It just seems impossible that it never came up before this. Data was a Lieutenant Commander at this time, wasn't he? Or a Lieutenant at least, the same rank as Tuvok.
26 years as an officer, serving on god knows how many assignments with who knows how many COs and JAGs around and nobody ever broached it?
>>212907198No but they did WANT to use Locarno and give him a redemption arc. It would've been interesting if Paris' character had that extra edge.
You can tell in S1 and S2 of Voyager that Paris was intended to be more of a misanthrope though. He's a bit of a cunt, particularly to Chakotay.
>>212907233Maddox was just the biggest psychopath in the federation and it was really an episode about his ambition as a cyberneticist.
>>212907233>Well, no, but wouldn't they discuss his sentience and his rights as an individual on his actual entrance to Starfleet Academy?I don't know the entire protocol but I would think no. They probably treated him like anyone else because establishing that you're sufficiently sentient and deserving of human rights isn't really a checkbox in the Starfleet assessment and application process. It's taken for granted by virtue of the fact that you're applying for Starfleet.
>>212907077And? What if the producers weren't cheap as fuck and paid the writers their royalties to use Nick, would things have been different?
>>212907305It would have to be a discussion, though. If a liberated Borg applied to Starfleet, you don't think the Admirals would form a committee and talk about it? They'd just automatically grant it admission into Starfleet?
>>212907331Yeah they'd probably interview it like they do anyone and then assess is it would be a security threat the same way they do with Romulans. They wouldn't debate if it deserves any rights or not.
>>212907250From what I understand they wanted to use Robert McNeil.
>Tom Paris was written into the first half-dozen or so Star Trek: Voyager scripts with little or no knowledge as to who would play the part.>When the producers were trying to cast the role of Tom Paris, they couldn't find anyone that seemed to match Robert Duncan McNeill's persona, so they eventually just asked him to read for the role, and he got the part.
>>212907322Well given how quick the VOY writers abandoned their initial plan of conflict for the show, who knows.
But the main difference in Locarno and Paris' characters isn't even the lack of remorse in my opinion, it's that Locarno had that ineffable quality of leadership, like the Kirk gigachad gene or something, that just makes guys want to follow them through pure charisma and force of personality.
He even made goody-two-shoes Wesley Crusher lie for him which is an incredible feat.
A guy like Locarno can't be on a ship like Voyager without ending up as the XO at least, he's too charismatic. That would be the proper way to write him anyway.
>>212907365>assess is it would be a security threat the same way they do with Romulans. They wouldn't debate if it deserves any rights or not.Not sure you can do one without the other.
>more xenogorn
Absolutely bleak. What the fuck went wrong with Strange New Worlds?
z
>>212907444I'm the most upset about what they did to Ortegas. She's a complete nothing-character. God damn them for killing off Hemmer.
>>212907535Ortegas was a flatline for me for two seasons, and then she finally had a character moment when she left the stupid dance party, and I went, "oh, she's a person." So I think they did it right. Even if they are just rehashing La'an's arc of being traumatized by Gorn. Even when nuTrek shows a glimmer of competence you stop and realize they just keep doing the same thing again and again.
>>212907396Iโll never forgive them for not using Locarno in Voyager. Whatever the story is, it wouldโve automatically just made the Tom Paris character that much more fleshed out. He probably wouldโve ended up exactly like how Tom Paris is written because VOY, but whenever I watch The First Duty I cringe at the missed opportunity.
>>212907444Not enough Vulqan hijinks.
>>212907712>Even when nuTrek shows a glimmer of competence you stop and realize they just keep doing the same thing again and again. Not to mention the rehash of Tapestry, but with Rhys Darby wearing an actual tapestry. He does make a great Trelane doe and because of the nonlinear nature of Q it could have been the same baby Q from VOY.
>>212907745I just kind of consider them the same in my own headcanon. It's easy enough to sort of meld them despite the differences. Like you say, the VOY writing would've watered him down regardless.
also for the record I like Measure of a Man, just wanted to play Devil's Advocate for discussion's sake
>>212905909Half a life is peak tng Mr woof
>>212906545May he thought
>Dis pointing tits at me Idk I'm not fluid in sexless retard
>>212906802Measure of a man, second best episode is a better question
>>212906851I'd agree
Best DS9 episode? And you can't pick In the Pale Moonlight
>>212908025If measure of a man is your first, q who should definitely be second
>>212906802A MATTER OF HONOR
>>212908078Trials and Tribble-ations. Iโve posted this before, but when I was a kid my momโs boyfriend showed me the original series tribble episode, the animated series tribble episode and the ds9 episode all in one sitting. I had never seen Star Trek before and it hooked me. So I will always hold those in high regard.
>>212908232I second this.
>>212907040Maddox doesn't respect data as sentient while you the viewer do. That's why he's cartoonishly evil. That makes it more satisfying when he loses and changes his mind to become pen pals with Data. It's the perfect episode
>>212908078In the pale moonlight. I do what i want
The Visitor
>>212907233>Well, no, but wouldn't they discuss his sentience and his rights as an individual on his actual entrance to Starfleet Academy? No they could have just assumed he was another niche and new race in starfleet like a thousand others
>It's meant to be really hard to get into the Academy. You're scrutinized in a ton of different ways, not just academically but also psychologically.Yeah he's a robot. He uses his robot brain and excelled at their tests. Makes perfect sense.
>It just seems impossible that it never came up before this. You're watching it come up for the first time in a way that would challenge his autonomy. It's because data is stellar that it comes up, if he was shit no one would care. And they set it up well that they get the orders on an undermaned station with no official jag.
>Data was a Lieutenant Commander at this time, wasn't he? Or a Lieutenant at least, the same rank as Tuvok. Why would it come up, no one had challenged it because data is a stellar starfleet officer when he isn't hacked
>26 years as an officer, serving on god knows how many assignments with who knows how many COs and JAGs around and nobody ever broached it?I don't think you understand starfleet.
>>212908096Without a doubt. Q who is top tier TNG, watched it a thousand times on vhs. But measure or a man is top tier trek ... shit they both are. Nvm I just like MOAM better lol
Locarno and Paris are completely different. Locarno is an arrogant hardass pos chasing rank glory like a red squad twerp, Paris is a slight goof off wisecracker who couldnโt care less about rank so long as he gets to fly ships and have fun.
>>212908078Little Green Men
>>212908938Locarno easily couldโve become what Tom Paris is in voyager after being expelled from the academy and becoming a jaded maquis. Loss of ambition. It wouldnโt havenโt been a stretch to make that character fit into voyager, and like was said above he probably wouldโve just ended up being written exactly like tom Paris was anyway.
>>212907396>it's that Locarno had that ineffable quality of leadership, like the Kirk gigachad gene or something, that just makes guys want to follow them through pure charisma and force of personality.Funny you bring up his charisma since in Lower Decks he uses that to get the crews of multiple ships of different races to mutiny and join a fleet he formed.
>>212909262Yeah no way in hell. They have completely different personalities.
I love in Star Trek when everything is connected and makes the universe feel smaller
Trelane is a Q
Every machine race is related to the Borg
Soongs always pop up throughout history and they're all played by Brent Spiner
Nick Locarno and Tom Paris are the same guy
>>212909636you mean in not Star Trek
The tng crew really should have kept track of Kevin. Could have blinked out the Breen the borg and the dominion in a half hour.
>>212909636Federation made AIs will always go rogue.
>>212909786The niggas from Errand of Mercy said they'd fry all the Federation and Klingon ships if they ever went to war again.
I never understood the V'ger = Borg theory.
V'ger wants to learn everything about the universe. The Borg assimilate to achieve perfection.
V'ger did not consider carbon based lifeforms to be true. The Borg are half-organic, half-machine.
V'ger was said to have crash landed on a planet populated entirely by machines. Again the Borg aren't completely mechanical and they had a humanoid ancestor.
I think some fans just go "oh, V'ger sometimes absorbs things to record them in its data banks, and the Borg assimilate technology, so they're the same!"
i showed a boomer friend prelude to axanar then had to spend 3 hours talking about trek when i didnt want to. yeah its great all these actors showed for a fan film, but i don't want to talk about it for 3 hours! i was so glad when it was over
>>212904126he excelled at every duty he was given.
>>212907040What was Data doing for 26 years? He never mentions any other ships he served on.
>>212913837>He totally forgot about the USS Trieste
People say there's nothing left to explore in the base Trek galaxy but that's not true.
We've seen almost nothing of the Gamma Quadrant. We've seen the Dominion but almost none of the worlds they conquered. They could easily do a Dominion civil war story, or that the aftermath of the war with the Alpha Quadrant severely diminished their power.
A show focused on exploring the Gamma Quadrant would also be a great chance to use beloved DS9 characters for cameos. Seems like a lot good be done there.
Let us all move to your planet.
Or else.
>>212914648Or the ending of LD saw the creation of a permanently open quantum rift They also made Discovery a non canon alternate timeline in the process too. so we can have a DS9 2.0, only instead of a wormhole to another quadrant, it's a gateway to different realities. Actual Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.
>>212913526Suuuuluuuu he star of a shooow, other guuuys just along for the ride
>>212914862Yeah but nobody gives a fuck about that gay cartoon shit though
>>212914648I mean even the delta quadrant is still largely untapped. Itโd be interesting to see a post VOY series about long range starfleet explorers/federation colonists. With more advanced tech you could make that 70,000 light-years from earth less of a โtrappedโ and more of an extended expedition.
>>212915418They made a truly gigantic, unavoidable sized portion of Delta Quadrant space belong to the Borg, so the show kind of has to end up being all about them for better or worse.
At least a Dominion civil war storyline has some legs. Having to recast Odo would really suck though.
>>212915264You clearly do since you responded. And you can't get more final frontier than other realities.
>>212915451I agree that the gamma quadrant would probably be the way to go, but I donโt think the delta quadrant has to be written off completely. I know itโs been a long time since Star Trek has had talented writers, but surely something could be done about the borg. They couldnโt possibly hold all that space forever.
>>212914761>My religion says your homeland belongs to me.lol who writes this crap?
Which captain wins a eating contest?
>>212916284if riker were competing.... but sisko is from a restauranteur family, hmm. i bet captain sulu has secret japanese eating technique. idk how the fuck they do that shit.
>>212916312No respect for girdlebusting Kirk?
>>212916284That's a no-brainer.
>>212916284Kirk wins in an eating contest. Easy. Picard probably wouldn't want to join in the first place, Archer would tell everyone heโs full half way through and respectfully bow out, Janeway would try and keep up with sisko and Kirk, but in the end she just wouldnโt have the stomach to compete with the boys and sisko would ultimately come in second because he just doesn't have the sheer will to stuff and keep it down like Kirk does(although sisko would have a lot fun doing it)
>>212916391>>212916392He can chew the scenery but he cannot eat with the big boys.
>>212916473A fine analysis anon
>>212904142>women...le age?!
"Ship in a Bottle" is my favorite episode.
>>212906802matter of honor
>>212916284I'd say Kirk, but it'd be close between him and Sisko.
Janeway comes last. Years of living on basically coffee alone have ruined her appetite.
Archer comes fourth. He cracks under the pressure of an eating contest like he cracks under any challenge.
Picard comes third. The man has no experience in either eating fast or eating large, and he's kinda grossed out by it.
Kirk and Sisko both have experience eating real food and real meat, and both enjoy the experience of eating.
What I'd say that gives Kirk the edge, is that he knew hunger as a child.
Hunger will teach you to pack away food more than tasting delicious food does.
Now what happens when Kirk faces the last eating contest's champion, Miles O'Brien?
>>212920246O'Brien has also been ruined by being on a virtual starvation diet of bamboo shoots and weak broth thanks to his cruel and abusive overlord, he can pack away a hearty breakfast because thats the only decent meal he gets all day, Kirk takes it again.
>>212915451>>212915809The Borg have a huge territory, but they're not exactly a regular galactic empire.
With the Borg ignoring anyone they consider not developed or interesting enough, there could be thousands of species and hundreds of empires existing inside of Borg space, chugging along at sub-warp speeds.
Or there could be even more advanced species, that have a gimmick against the Borg; like they're all cloaked, or they move their entire civilization in ships that they Borg can't catch, or they have some kind of perception filter, or whatever.
>>212916284You guys are sleeping on archer.

I'm pretty sure Trip beats Archer in an eating contest.
season 2 of voy has some wacky shit, the emt had an "its all a dream featuring barclay" ep, kes goes through puberty ep, yes shes 2 years old and tom and neelix are pedos, and now kim is stuck in an alternate reality and this joker who we've never seen before and will never see again is from some race of time and space hopping aliens, I guess their Q, oh and nog showed up

Good morning /trek/. Odo was in my dream
>>212917823>>212922077I actually really like the vibe of S1 and S2 TNG.
The lighting setup was also completely different in those seasons contributing to that special feel.
>>212922030The panhandle is the part of Florida thatโs not trashy dumbass, miamiXeverglades. Lots of internationals first time in America is a convention or something in Miami. a bad matte painting from the theatrical cut of TMP. Was removed and replaced with a CG shot in the directors cut. You can see the area where the live action footage of that actors walking to Vger is.
Tng is sorta cringe because everyone just eats alone in their room. Going to ten forward to eat is even more cringe because you would only do so because youโre lonely and donโt have any real friends to invite home

Made it to the Hirogen arc. One of my favorites.
This week Star Trek: Strange New Worlds added a new crewmember to the Betterprise. Kelzing The Bartender played by Kira Guloien. She is the first Edosian in a live-action Star Trek series.

Upcoming, this is another big week for Trek. Thursday is another new episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds:
> SNW S03E03 Shuttle to Kenfori - In order to cure Batel, Pike and M'Benga travel to Klingon space, where M'Benga's past resurfaces on a dangerous planet.
>>212904126The posting makes sense because of the dominion war. Starfleet is losing hundreds if not thousands of ships every month. Starfleet probably had to get a lot less picky about recruits.
Saturday is the big Star Trek panel at SDCC. Often where new announcements are made, that is unlikely give the changes going on at Paramount.
However, we should get a first look at Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy. Characters, sets, costumes and perhaps some BTS.
>>212906802Second on Q Who. The only downside of an otherwise top tier episode with actually threatening villains for once was the annoying ensign and Geordi obviously trying to get into her pants.

2) he knew Nog was starfleet material but if he got posted to a crew that didnโt know him, and only had Ferengi stereotypes to go on, he might wash out.
