Sean Penns retarded back tat was up there with the rape dungeon with memorable parts of this one

The most memorable scene by far is Penn yelling "IS THAT MY DAUGHTAH"! "IS THAT MY DAUGHTAH IN THEYAH"? in a terrible Boston accent. Netflix used to show that scene when you stopped on Mystic River.

I saw this movie young as hell and it fucked me up.
>Childhood friend disappears for half a year and comes back to school the next year
>Thought he moved
>Turns out his parents went through an insane divorce and both tried to pull him outta school
>Insane custody battle
>Ends with him moving back and living with his grandparents
>See mystic river
>Fucking traumatized
>Ask my parents why they killed their friend who was raped as a kid because they assumed rapees turn into rapist...plus his shitty alibi
>They try to explain the alibi but I ask why they wouldn't trust their friend they've known forever
>Sometimes bad things happen to people and it makes them think bad things are okay
>Not even a week after seeing mystic river friend confides into me his ma and dad were both drug addicts
>Even gave him drugs
>Like not blowing weed smoke in his face but full on injecting him with "medicine"
>He'd wake up shortly after usually undressed
>His parents were literally pimping him out for drugs
>Know someone went through something fucking horrible but can't help but think he's broken now
>Tell parents
>They act like I just told them I witnessed him strangle a small animal
>He isn't allowed to spend the night anymore
>Start distancing myself from him
>Worried I'll catch the gay or something
>By highschool he's turned into a full druggy
>During college take a psychology class
>Some bullshit lecture about rape victims and then a little sidenote that felt like the professor was talking right to me about child victims and emotional scarring at a developing age
>Feel intense guilt like I abandoned him
>Make it my goal to find him and tell him I'm sorry for treating him like a leper
>Look up Myspace(yeah it was that long ago) and find some of his druggy friends from highschool
>One of them had a profile picture of themselves and old friend
>It said RIP
>Message them and ask what happened
>He killed himself
>feel like I killed him personally

This is exactly what the movie is about. The wolf and the sheep. Little Lamb got caught by wolves and got devoured for the first time. He couldn't move from trauma and grew to be a sheep while everyone around him turned into wolves. In the end, his friends, who had become wolves themselves, sacrificed him. And no one missed him, nor his wife, nor his child, nor his friends. No justice will ever be brought because a sheep is all he was. Just like your parents averted their eyes, and you too, you realized it is what it is, a poor lamb devoured by wolves, and there is nothing to do about it.

And yet it doesn't have to be that way, and that's why Psalm 23 (the Lord is my shepherd) did more to instill Christianity in Europe than any amount of threatening heretics, despite what revisionist fedoras may pretend.
Imagine being a raped starved deranged exhausted loveless landless peasant in a feudal barony and some bald guy takes you into a beautiful little building, clothes and feeds you and tells you he will care for you because his God commands it, and you find out he's getting the money from your fellow peasants to maintain the place and eat on their dime and help wretches like you. And they're tithing not because he's threatening them like the local baron, but rather because he just asks

What a bunch of false, sentimental hypocrites. Reddit used to be one place... The movie is about how the weak are the first to be sacrificed in this twisted society. They will feel pity and say how they are sorry, but in the end they don't really care and will toss away the sheep because it is convenient. Yeah, it is shit, but it is what happens, and sometimes there is nothing you can do about it except accept it is what it is. Anon parents realized it would be their problem and that maybe the child who is now marginalized could be dangerous to their child and just cut him from his life. And prob people who didnt know him reacted to his death like
>Cool, less one drug addicted in the world
>Nothing of value was lost
