Yeah I love this movie. Haven't read the book. I love PKD the person. I love the ending to this. And some other scenes in there, I'm sure you know which ones I'm thinking of."What does the scanner see?" But the ending to this one. Well, what makes it most is the beautiful swelling music and PKD's words.

I like the rotoscoping. And because of the character, it makes Keaneu's stiff acting work.

We can be both. I've been a weird nerd and a doped up lunatic. I don't see anything about any losers though. It's not necessarily 'loser' to do meth. I got a tremendous amount done at first. After a few months of it you end up in a sleepwalk haze like Scanner Darkly can be. You're lucid and awake but so exhausted mentally. It's not all bad, but it becomes bad. I think all people should experience that sort of thing to understand its depths. It's a trip. I've been a bad alcoholic and done all kinds of drugs over the years and it's just made me more wise. I like an adventure, and when you're around druggies the adventures abound.

As far as drug movies as a whole I'm pretty hard to please, Trainspotting I'm mixed on (it's mostly the personalities on display that give it soul) and something like Requiem for a Meme is a straight up PSA but there are good depictions out there, just rarely in the mainstream

Turned into dinosaurs really? The floor moving in the lobby and the hallway carpet were the only things realistic in Fear and Loathing. Electric Eels and Dinosaurs were not.

Fear and Loathing nails the psychological state ; like that scene at the anti-drug conference, where even something as simple as a couple kissing becomes a huge deal in your mind becoming grossly and absurdly exaggerated… like the lighting in the room feels off, and reality starts to feel grotesque or absurd.

Agree with Fear and Loathing but there are things Midsommar nails about that scene even besides the visuals, though the visual aspect is what it excels at and is better than 99% of other movies in that regard - but yes, Gilliam's exaggerated style and the setting of Vegas itself obviously leads to a more heightened portrayal
