It's called marketing. The idea is if it's perceived as a "success" more people will want to go see it, and they earn more money.

That's the Friday to Friday drop. It's weekend to weekend drop was only 54%, which is extremely impressive for a tentpole comic book film and comparable to the drop that The Dark Knight had (53%).

MoS came right after the Nolan trilogy, it was produced by Nolan, with a script from Goyer. It was only directed by Snyder because Nolan didn't want to direct it. It made profit solely by riding the hype Nolan had, and the sphere that superhero blockbusters like Avengers had created for cinematic universes, WB was looking to get GOLD not silver. What they got was a product that audiences were split at the time, but still made money so they kept working with Snyder (fully trusting him), and threw him BvS because they didn't trust fully on Snyder and then meddled, which in turn ended up as a shitshow and thus marked MoS as a sharky start for said universe.

Superman (2025) is a movie thrown 12 years later, where the average moviegoer deals with: constant flops of cinematic universes, "superhero fatigue", cinemas being more expensive than ever, STREAMING SERVICES, post-pandemic generation, etc. They won't consider it a flop because it was well received and generated the budget back.

No more cape kino will be made, but we knew that already.
