Wrestling has basically zero competition. WWE is it. Its product has been severely watered down to cater to as many people as possible and to be as inoffensive as possible. By contrast, during the Attitude Era, WWE had the widest age range of viewership in its history.

A lot of the wrestling is ether focused on the theatrics, i.e. entrance/stage, or flippy shit, or -- worst of them all -- smark wrestlers who are marks for themselves.

Just a terrible product all around and has been for well over a decade.

Pro wrestling is basically a bullshit industry. No one really knows how to make a 'good wrestling product, not even the people who are successful.' Probably the biggest wrestler in history Hulk Hogan joined TNA. His presence didn't elevate the company. Tony Khan throws money hiring some of the best wrestlers in the world, AEW still can't catch up to WWE. Even WWE itself, it doesn't know how to recreate stars with mainstream pop culture appeal like Stone Cold and The Rock. Nobody knows what sells, nobody knows how to make a good product. It's bullshit in a sense that everyone is just guessing and throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. With the film industry, it's more controlled. You throw in a respected director, some A list actors and you'll have a decent movie. With pro wrestling, there's nothing like that.
