Honestly makes .22 and 9mm the superior ammo choices simply because you can carry a godawful amount of them on your person even compared to things like .45's or 5.56m's which would be pretty common too.
Another thing to add would be the noise, a gun, even in smaller calibers would be way louder than tv shows, yeah, but clearing something like a farm wouldn't mean you get zombies from the neighboring town on your butt if using something like .22

TWD is a live action Saturday morning cartoon. Only the 1st couple seasons have any kind of realism. Well mainly the same problem as the Irish revolutionary pike, the shafts on the pikes are fatastically long some up to 18 feet and the shorter hoplite spears being 8 geet or so. Thus while useful in formation phalanx spears are pretty useless as individual weapons being very unweildy and quite easily damaged, the cannot be used at all in any enviroment unsuited to them such as indoors or where there is any degree of heacy cover vehitation, classically phalanx also failed in any kind of mountainous terrain

I didn’t realize it until years later that Shane used a 590. I bought the same shotgun a few years ago and it’s an absolute beast. Just need the retracting stock and it would be the same. So that’s what I’d use.

I don't think the weight is a real issue. It's just that avoiding bites doesn't mean you've avoided the danger that comes with trying to deal with a zombie horde up close. If they catch up to you and overrun/swarm you you will just be crushed to death. The real solution and why the zombies will never be a true threat is that you can just run away and then shoot them from far away.

I've given this an inordinate amount of thought and decided on the UMP45 + silencer. The 45ACP is pretty ubiquitous in the US, not as much as the 9mm, but much more popular than it is in Europe. 45ACP packs a bigger punch and would perform like a bigger weapon in practice. The weapon is small enough to be useful in tight corridors and basements while easily modified with attachments and stocks for multiple purposes.

Are the Walking Dead zombies explicitly supernaturally strong or is it just a continuity problem or plothole? I remember them tearing a horse apart with their fingers in season 1 which is obviously impossible for normal humans. However it's unclear if this is intentional, for example most magazines in the show contain way more bullets than they should but I don't think a small magazine contains 100 bullets in the lore.
