It was always great. The only reason it was hated upon release is because all the monsters were CGI in a time when they were still mostly costumes, but if it came out today the CGI monsters wouldn't strike a single person as out of place. In fact they hold up better than a lot of modern effects.

recently watched picrel recently because Marilyn Manson has mentioned its influence on his work on more than one occasion, i really enjoyed it. very moody and a cool take on the genre and its conventions. the intro is probably one of my favorite openings of a horror film, it stuck out with me almost more than the ending, i almost wanted a movie about that more than what we got.

Fuck yes. This, Blade, Lost Boys, Dracula (1992) and Interview With The Vampire are the only vampire films you actually need. I'll also accept as bonus features Fright Night, From Dusk Till Dawn, Vampire Hunter D, Vampire's Kiss and Underworld. Plus the entire Buffy series.

The CGI looked like shit even when it first came out but the plot and aesthetics are basically timeless. It should be regarded up there with Indiana Jones and the Mummy as a classic action-adventure movie.
