It was always great. The only reason it was hated upon release is because all the monsters were CGI in a time when they were still mostly costumes, but if it came out today the CGI monsters wouldn't strike a single person as out of place. In fact they hold up better than a lot of modern effects.

recently watched picrel recently because Marilyn Manson has mentioned its influence on his work on more than one occasion, i really enjoyed it. very moody and a cool take on the genre and its conventions. the intro is probably one of my favorite openings of a horror film, it stuck out with me almost more than the ending, i almost wanted a movie about that more than what we got.

Holy based. Rise of the Lycans never gets any recognition despite being easily the best of the series. Captain Kronos didn't fully live up to the hype for me, but considering how few vampire action movies we ever get and how much worse they usually are than vampire horror I completely understand how it found its fanbase.
