It's an alternate dimension. It's pretty much stated from the start. It's like the jj verse. They were going to eventually jump to the prime from their future but got cancelled because the show was badly cast, written and structured. The first two seasons were decent but we're slow burns then it fell off.
Strange New Worlds is pretty I'm surprised. I think they will have pike get to the prime universe. He's in the prime until some split happens

They got into trouble with season long arcs and random the captain is stupid episodes, they had a lot of material to finish. They were running out of time so no fuller episodes, it's cheaper to do it that way and people are more likely to see the next episode if it on a cliff have for a little then everyone hates it.

They knew that they were canceled and because that never happened to any ST show after TNG, they felt obligated to bring it to a nice conclusion to honor the fans and the franchise. That meant no filler episodes only the big guns.

So I just got through Obriens Orion Syndicate episode. Even before they intro Section 31, they portray Starfleet Intelligence as being no better than the other intelligence agencies. Would have been a good opportunity to showcase Federation ideals, but nope. They just let Obriens friend get killed because they can't even protect his family on New Sydney. DS9 really was trying to dismantle the franchise huh

that's the bit that's annoying. the refit is a fake fanfic design commissioned by a 3rd party. they got the original designer for the NX-01 back to make it but it was still fanfic. Anything the designer says about "oh we were TOTALLY going to do this in season 5" is head canon, late stage Enterprise had the budget of a sitcom for the final season, the network wasn't going to fucking pay for new CG assets and a new engineering set

Maybe it's just the fact that later productions went back to something more movie/TNG-y.

It's wild to me that the same show, in the same season, could have both this and the genuinely pretty good reimagined Constitution-class. They redid the sets and uniforms for SNW but the actual exterior of the ship is virtually untouched.
Love the way that it marries the refit's profile with the more TOS lines and styling. I can actually believe this version of the ship could become the connie refit without being a total ground-up same-in-registry-only rebuild.

I like it.
It's not sleek or aerodynamic, it's not intimidating or powerful looking at all.
Instead it's flat and boxy, safe looking, with this weird configuration of the pylons going directly into the saucer, and the engineering section sitting in that weird spot between the nacelles.

It's a great design for a utility vessel instead of a front line exploration vessel.
And it's a great ship for a crew that aren't Starfleet's elite.

Also LDS is arguably more insulting than STD, so I don't know why anyone would want to cite them. It was weird how the entire Internet came to the same conclusion 10 minutes after the STD Klingons showed up. Felt very astroturfed. Like the Paramount marketing people thought they could score points but didn't know how to actually uncanonize STD because their writers are stupid. I watched LDS. They have a space station at the end with an explicit goal of going into an interdimensional Rick and Morty portal and exploring parallel dimensions.

>They have a space station at the end with an explicit goal of going into an interdimensional Rick and Morty portal and exploring parallel dimensions
That Section 31 episode was fucking embarrassing. The entire episode was just the writer jerking himself off and using the main character as a strawman for the multiverse haters. In a way it's fitting that a clone of Rick and Morty ended with an attempt to turn Star Trek into Rick and Morty. A multiverse gimmick that people have been tired of for at least five years now.
Lezzie Dykes didn't do anything interesting with the concept, it didn't put a Star Trek spin on it. It was just an excuse to engage in more franchise navel-gazing and spam more memberberries for the mentally challenged audience. They also realized that by turning into everything into a multiverse they don't have to deal with consequences of their writing. So they made Garak and Bashir gay but handwaved it away by saying that they're multiversal variants, because they were too cowardly to actually commit to the idea.

Lezzie Dykes is the most pathetic, most spineless show.

Lezzie Dykes had a crossover with SNW, an STD spin-off. It explicitly referenced the events of STD as TAKNG PLACE in the PAST. It's all Kurtzman's fake Star Trek. I've only seen this theory pushed by Dumbcuck and other grifters.

A viral marketing stunt by Lezzie Dykes writers. The entire show was designed to be clickbait. That's why they made Garak and Bashir gay because it guaranteed headlines despite them not actually committing to the idea. They did the same thing two seasons earlier when they made the lead character gay in an effort to get those sweet headlines. And it worked.

Do you believe that NuTrek's audience is made up of lively Gen Zers? Nuke truth for ya: it's all geezers. Middle-aged dudes watching shows where Spock sings about getting dumped by a girl. Middle-aged dudes obsessing over cartoon gay couples. Who do you think all these memberberries are for? Do you think zoomers care about some Glup Shitto from a niche TNG episode coming back as a CalArts cartoon?
Young people don't watch Star Trek and they sure as fuck don't watch NuTrek. NuTrek is watched by middle-aged Star Trek fans suffering from sunk cost fallacy. And trannies too, I suppose. But they never cared about Star Trek anyway, they just latched onto because it pandered to them. Alex Kurtzman genuinely thought that those queers would be the next generation of Star Trek fans, without realizing that they never liked Star Trek and quickly moved on from it.

LD really showed the amount of untapped storytelling there is in the star trek universe since we've only used to seeing the best of the best on the flagship of the Federation, or warriors of the Klingon empire seeking battle.
You rarely saw what the crews of the support fleet that do the undesirable, but necessary jobs of star fleet, or the Klingons who do the work like farming.

Honestly, a good work around would be a 'tales of the Federation' or 'tales of the klingon empire', etc series where they just focus on one of these overlooked daily lives for an episode.

Both the branch point for the 09 movies and then how Picard decided the ramifications should play out basically leave Trek with the same problem as Star Wars' new canon, which is you have these massive landmines from a few works that kind of fuck with everything you might want to write around a certain era.
Romulus, Mars and the shipyards, the synthetic ban, now the day that half of Starfleet became borg and the Enterprise-G being taken, there's a lot of shit to navigate if you want to write something in the post-DS9 era.
The Burn and all that is similar, but far enough forwards that I think it's much easier to ignore.
I think SNW probably has the right idea in canonising the idea that the amount of temporal fuckery going on leaves room for looser interpretations of canon.
I don't think it's sustainable, if any of these series want to be forever franchises as seems to be the current intent, for everyone to have to be locked into strict adherence particularly to the bad decisions.

Star Trek is not nearly as fucked as Star Wars is. Given Star Fleet did recover from the attack, as did the Romulans, even with that short era where they were in a civil war before reunifying. The whole Borg and Changling issue and Enterprise-G are the more annoying things to deal with. But it could be handwaved with some Lower Deck style humor poking fun at the retardation of those situations like they've done with other poor or inconsistent writing in the older series.

Or the fact that Lower Deck ended by leaving a door open for a DS9 series, only instead of a wormhole, it's a portal to different dimensions, which is a good way to streamline the various canons. But it'll greatly depend on the skill of the writers since as you said, it's super easy to fuck it up if you have have everyone on the same page or try to do it by committee, I.E. what happened with the Disney star wars trilogy.

Filmation is known for extremely low-budget animation. They make the Taft Broadcasting era of Hanna Barbera look like Ralph Bakshi's work.
For example, this is literally the entire Orion-girl dance sequence from the "Time Trap" episode.

You're right, it's just funny that JJ Abrams personally fucked the canon of both franchises in ways that made them a pain in the ass for people working with them after.

And yeah, ultimately it's all down to the writers and the execution. Disney-era Star Wars somehow gave us Andor despite itself, and S2 of that had to get in a canon fist-fight with Rebels to figure out a way to give Mon Mothma a speech about the Empire that wasn't written to go in the background of a mid-budget CG cartoon aimed at 12 year olds. With enough effort you can get a lot done even with that stuff working against you.

That bugged me, and the other thing that bugged me about Star Trek 3 is the Klingon Bird of Prey does not have warp nacelles. It has disruptor cannons on the ends of the wings where the warp nacelles should be. Then there is some small parts on the back of the main hull that they say are the warp nacelles, but they are way too small compared to other Klingon and Federation nacelles at the time.

Still makes it easier in certain situations. I.E you need to ship medical supplies to one of them in space dock and there's multiple of the same class there. Do you go through the trouble have looking up the name and registration of the ship you need, or do you just find the one with a blue paint job looking out the window?
Also it's more for the viewers benefit.
Yes, they didn't do it sooner because it would cost too much money to repaint the models, but we're CG now, can't be that hard.

I could see the Federation wanting to clearly mark hospital ships, at least when at peace or fighting enemies more inclined towards respecting laws-of-war type treaties.
Clear demarcation of their behind-the-lines ships could also help with trust when it comes to the issue of the Federation not (usually) building warships, but having classes for ostensibly other roles outfitted more than well enough to compete with the dedicated warships of other powers.
A clearer indicator as to the job of the ships making regular runs to your planet after first contact, or swarming somewhere after a natural disaster or whathaveyou might help diffuse that a little.

Yes, humans were mogging the Klingons in battle strategy so the Klingons decided to fuck around with their DNA to become more human. Warriors then volunteered for genetic therapy only to figure out later that the whole idea was a disaster, so over time, they had to reverse the genetic damage.

You can thank Enterprise writers for this nonsense shit ass explanation.

the explanation very good, especially considering every other show was afraid to try. they were experimenting with gene edits and accidentially infected a ton of klingons with a human augment virus. phlox stablized it and klingons and it was completely erradicated sometime in the next 200 years. we dont really need an explanation for the tos klingons getting their ridges back in ds9. either they went back to normal when the virus was cured or they got surgery. makes absolutely no difference because the ds9 writers were too cowardly to try to explain it.

All they had to do was pull a B'Elanna Torres and say the human looking Klingons were quarter-breed rape babies that the Klingon Empire used underhandedly as thug pirates since they had no honor by default. Then those who proved themselves would be allowed to surgically alter themselves to avoid scorn in proper Klingon society.

babe, the show can't have the characters reference the fact that it's a tv show. of course it's an artifact of the budget and limitations of the time. and other factors like as budget and technology progressed there was no reason to have aliens look basically exactly the same as humans and they had more creative freedom. having Worf say what everyone already fucking knew that yes, they are Klingons and no, it was never explained why they looked different is not a demand for someone to make up something stupid in the future. it's tongue in cheek fanservice. holy autism.

Rewatch it as an adult. Yes, it is still annoying but that is the idea.
The circus(Clown World) is fun for a bit, but you don't want to be stuck in a perpetual circus with the carnies(clowns) in charge of everything.
It's still not the best Episode, it is a Voy epi after all, BUT I do think there is a certain charm to it. It actually "feels" like a ToS episode.

I like how ENT fleshes out the Klingons just a little bit more, something DS9 touched upon, that not everyone is a warrior and there are doctors, lawyers, and just plain civilians too who find glory in their own way besides killing.

The Thaw is actually one of the best VOY eps but not so much for its dumb premise. It is actual visual kino and Janeway gives a pretty great performance opposite Clown Chuck. The ending is great and also hints at her horrible cruelty due to space madness
